http://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/article/20131031-leejohnson-1145772.aspx Love him or hate him, you have to take your hat off to him after his great words towards the club. All the best after our game on Saturday Lee, who knows, one day you could be managing the team that's in your heart?
I never had an issue with him as a player He never set the world alight but he always seemed a decent enough guy off the pitch. I hope we put 6 past Oldham on Saturday mind !
I never rated him as a footballer. Wasn't strong enough and couldn't pick out that killer pass, mind you I would have him in the team over Kilkenny any day of the week! He is a nice bloke though, always took time out to have a photo and talk to the fans. Will watch his managerial career very closely and who knows, maybe in the future lee can go one better than his dad and get us in the prem?
Who knows, but I dont think you'll ever see Oldham up there ever again after their successful period of the 90's under Joe Royle
Doubt if he's nice enough to gift us 3 points but does show he is a decent type.I hope that he does get a good reception on Saturday as well as a long journey home with no points.
I like this bit... ' Despite his rough treatment, Johnson insists he will not gloat if Oldham put one over on his former club this weekend. "Beating Bristol City would give me no more pleasure than beating any other club," claimed the Latics boss. "When I played for them, there was a section that didn't support me as much as they should have done because I was playing for my dad. "You need to be strong in those situations and I learned a lot from the experience. You have to be brave and demand the ball and I think I always do that. "But I don't hold anything against those who gave me a hard time. I look back on my time at Bristol City with fondness and pride. I love the club and the idea of revenge could not be further from my mind. "City fans may have given me stick, but I bet they'd like their side to have my win ratio at this moment in time!" Cant argue with hard facts. However if we beat them on Saturday we'll be 2 points behind Oldham with a game in hand
I'd be a nice bloke as well if I was playing in a team I wasn't good enough to be in, at a level far superior to my talents, on a contract I don't justify... Hope things work out for him as a manager though.
He was, as a footballer, probably good enough to be in the team. Johnson's biggest problem was his size. But then if he had been a normal size for a top midfielder he would have been playing for Wenger, not us. Thats the thing with Arsenal cast-offs. There is usually a reason
'Thats the thing with Arsenal cast-offs. There is usually a reason' And Watford(no games), and Brighton(no games), and Hearts(77minutes), And Chesterfield(dropped), And Kilkmarnock(dropped). 'There is usually a reason' - useless comes to mind.
Yeah... We're better off without him ... ... And his dad Well, we are, aren't we? Just look at the league? It doesn't lie - or does it?
We should never have sacked Harry Thickett either, I mean, what have we done in the FA Cup since he was our manager, nothing close to his accomplishments. Tedious comment about a man who left years ago, time to pick up your tissues, bin em, and move on mate.
If the players we had at the time of LJ, had put the effort he did on the pitch for this club, then we wouldn't be struggling in league one..........FACT
Say what you want about Johnson, he was a pivotal part in our most successful period for a very long time, 2006-2009
Exactly......never had reason to bemoan him myself. Always put a shift in which is more than can be said about a few players since LJ's days!
His size was never my issue and I got fed up of people saying that he want big enough to play football yet the same fans I doubt would have teh same issue with other players like Paul Scholes who was teh same height. My issue was that he was played ahead of other players, first it was Noble and then Hartley. Both players gave more at teh time on the pitch and when you are keeping these players out eh team you have to perform week in and week out which he didnt. I also saw no point to him when he could only pass the ball a foot in front of him so his pass stats looked good but at times we might as well been playing with 10 men. I think things may have been easier for him if his father wasnt the manager as it was hard not to think at times he got his place in teh team because of that connection and maybe in the playoff final when Orr had to go off, if Johnson had brought a defender on to replace a defender rather than bringing Lee on and putting Elliott at full back it could have ended differently but thats hind sight and in the past. As a bloke he seems switched on and has a brain who off the field has invested his money in properties and has made a lot of money and when the day comes that we need a new manager I do hope that his name is linked to the club as I think he has done well with what he has at Oldham
