I am beginning to feel the same way. Strange thing is............love him or hate him, Harry has always been renowned for playing attacking, attractive football. It doesn't help that Phillips appears to be quite useless!! This means he can't play 2 wide men, unless he plays the apparently out of favour SWP. Mind you.............1 point behind 2nd and 6 points clear of 7th ain't too shabby!
We have only conceded 4 goals but the frustrating thing is that we seem to be playing within ourselves when we could be taking teams apart. I mean, we have one of the best squads in the league. Surely time to be more adventurous.
As I've said, we've played every game to go for a 0-0 and sneak a set piece and then go for it in the last ten mins. Redknapp belongs in the Paul hart category for negativity. Truly awful stuff.
I don't count last season as Redknapp's team, for me, I'll judge him on this season and so far I've got no complaints after the nightmare of the past two years. Redknapp does like to play attractive attacking football and I think eventually he'll look to do that with us. I believe (or at least want to believe) that his priority was getting the defence sorted. Once the foundations are in place we can begin to open up and start attacking teams a bit more. However, whichever way you look at it, a draw at Wigan (many people's favourites for the league) is a bloody good result.
The amount of sloppy goals we conceded last season, we could've been looking at the bottom 3 by now rather than the top 3. I know which I prefer.
I said the same after Barnsley and got pretty slaughtered on here for doing so. I really feel we are lucky to be where we are. But for a couple of decisions that have gone our way we could easily be mid table. It is our lack of creativity going forward that worries me. There is only so much passing around the back you can do. You need the ability to capitalise on it with an end product or the possession is worthless.
Sorry if this has already been asked recently but where is SWP? I know he is not very highly rated by many on here but I could see him doing a useful job with his pace down the wings spraying a few crosses into Austin. I see him as a missing link and being a bit handy at championship level.
When has SWP ever put a cross in? All he does is cut inside and lose the ball or scuff a shot low to the left.
Im not upset, I cant believe anyone would want him in the team. Im sure he got injured but its a bit strange that we havent got any updates, probably because many people would be replying on the social media that it was good to see him out.
Relying on 1 striker & then 3 creative players lacking match fitness has played a big part do think we'll improve a lot in the coming months.
I think at present we tend to have all our eggs in the one basket ( too reliant on Austin ) and that it is showing by low goal scoring and general lack of ability to get anyone else to knock them in. I think we have entered our 'off' stage and can only hope we do not suffer too long with it. No team can stay 'peaked' all year round but it's too early at present to hit the skids
I think there's next to no difference in the way we have played all season. We had a few lucky breaks against mediocre teams. And survived a few scares at the back unpunished. Against the better teams, we won't score as readily and the mistakes that are always there might be punished. Overall though, to be where we are is promising. The lack of sharpness from the likes of Hoillet, Philips and Kranjcar is holding us back at the moment; and there also must be some nervousness about the scarcity of experienced cover in defence. Steeping back from it all - 3rd in the table with just 1 defeat at Hallowe'en - whilst it's no thriller, it's not the stuff of nightmares that the likes of Wolves endured last season.
