I'm provocative. Ken that is about the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. The poor sod John Lawson who wrote the article is now getting torn apart by the hamsters on CL. Quite why he felt the need to justify himself I do not know. If you want an example of an unbalanced and perhaps 'typical' thread from the rabid gerbils on CL, just read the post about Suarez, it's fantastic for its knee jerk, unbalanced, overreaction. Would you feel comfortable if you had some charlton lifers on a jury? I'd rather take my chances wearing a skull cap and eating sausages in a sharia court than having those lot of simpletons judge me.
I've just read the thread on CL. It practically explodes with moral indignation, especially "Henry Irving". What on earth did John Lawson say to stir all this up? To be fair quite a few take a more dispassionate view. Come on, V-a-V, what did John actually say?
Charlton Life and the views on here is typical of the South London football pyramid. Millwall take the piss out of Palace and Charlton. Palace take the piss out of Charlton and Millwall but feel guilty for it. Charlton takes the piss out of itself. Thankfully this has always been the way, and is the reason Millwall will always be THE South London Club Is this Henry Irvine, AFKABartram, or Airman Brown - or all of them? please log in to view this image
That is because we have a support base that is big enough to do it........ The other supporters you mention might get locked away for talking to themselves!
It was a well written and insightful piece which pointed out that Charlton Life's Cardigan Clique does not= CAFC, contrary what people like Ben Hayes and Jean Huelin among others seem to believe.
TBH, I'm bored of CL constantly coming up on this forum. If I wanted to discuss all things CL I would sign up to..... CL. However, if it is to be a mainstay of conversation I'd prefer to keep the discussion away from insulting the site or the people who run it. I don't think it represents this forum and the other 95% of its topics well.
Agree wholeheartedly. They may not be everyone's cup of tea and may have different agendas but whatever they are they are Charlton supporters of some variety or other and unless they come on here, shouldn't be discussed on here.
The trouble is, there's no chance of anything much happening in the January Transfer window, there's nothing very controversial happening at Charlton, no obvious major selection issues and our football is uninspiring, although the players are putting in plenty of effort. Topics like take-overs, and new contracts, we've had our say, at least until there is any new development. Even V-a-V's Powell Out campaign seems to have stalled, so maybe it needs something like this, or a thread about racism, to liven things up a bit.
That's it, Billy. There appears to be a level of boredom kicking in. But I don't want that boredom to turn in to aimless insults at one another or other sites. My concern is how it makes our forum look to those on the outside - discussing said article from VOTV is one thing, but I don't want not Not606 to be a platform where we always discuss CL.
Swan Lake with live ammunition?? or should we discus the Firebird. The Rite of Spring tends to get people going!
Just finally got round to seeing Tamara Drewe - apart from the two celebrity obsessed girls, god-awful movie - but IMO if anything associated with Charlton Athletic is to be declared an Asset of Community Value, it should be Gemma Arterton's a**e. Just thought I'd throw that in to raise the tone on 'ere.
By the way my band's playing near Shadwell next thursday(George Tavern, 373 Commercial rd.). WE've got a 30minute slot at 9 pm. If anyone wants to come it's £5 for the night, or if you pm me your name it's £3:50.
