..... I'm not really sure now. If we only want to concentrate on staying up then we should play a totally different team and not risk the likes of Fletcher, Cattermole, Brown etc to either injury or suspension. Besides, playing a 'first team' and losing might dent any confidence we've built up after the derby and a 'result' at Hull. I suspect Southampton will know they won't keep up their run in the league so will be looking a the the cups. I hate the way we've crept out of the cups recently but this season has become a survival battle and I think we'll do the same again.
bloody good side southampton, we were lucky to come away from there place with a point, i would rather stay in the prem than win the cup but would love to do do both obviously. So i'm gonna say yes i want to have my cake and eat it, but i wouldnt take major risks, a cup tie is a cup tie afterall, owt can happen
Do we want to beat Southampton ...... ****ing to right, a decent cup run would be great... Arsenal v Chelsea today, so another big club going out.... Like the song 'let's go all the way'.
All right, you've talked me into it ..... I'm easily lead. Haway Lads, we're off to Wembley!!!!!!!!!!!
Imo the Fa cup cost Wigan their place in the prem. The league cup however is wrapped up by February I think so im all for going for it. We can rest players and still put a capable side out. our league position. beggars belief when you look at our squad. potential league cup team .......................Mannone........................ Celustka...Brown....diakite.......Roberge ...................Cabral.....Ki......................... Giaccherini......Gardner.............Mavrias .......................Wickham............................
Damn, I was liking the idea of this thread right up to your change of heart. To be honest I have a sneaking suspicion that you will beat us anyway if we send the squad that played in the last round against Bristol City. If you would be so kind as to field your U9s side, that would be great! I often wonder if a bit of a behind closed doors deal is done over the strengths of squads for these games. We have previous with Gus from our League 1 title race with Brighton, he doesn't like us much so probably wants to beat us, although that dislike may be restricted to Adkins as they had a handbags at 10 paces war of words through the press.
ATM I would not play Fletcher got to keep him fit. I would play Altiadore he needs a goal. I probably would not play Catts as he might pick up a knock or a yellow/red. So as much as I would love a cup run..the Premier League is more important and we do not have quality in depth in the squad..so yes rest a few players and give arun out to others.
To be fair, our bench on Sunday wasn't too shoddy. If we have the likes of Mannone, Diakite, Roberge, Cabral, Karlsson, Giaccherini, Wickham, Altidore etc we could put a decent 'cup team' together and give them game time anarl.
Got my tickets so of course I want to beat Southampton. if we win we in the Quarter Final. I rather win something then fight to stay up all the ****ing time.
I was due to stay in the UK after the derby so I could see that game anarl ............ until they moved it
A home game, against a team, currently looking to finish high in the league, could be good for us ...... followed by a home game against a team we seem to have a hex over at the moment. Are we becoming Newcastle's bogey team
Hell yeah I want to win it. I want to win the whole thing. We'll never get another trophy in the cabinet if we don't go for it. We've got a fully fit squad so should be able to field a strong enough team of youth and experience.
Treat this game as a high standard window for those you need to be coming up. I'd drop Brown (good guy, but hardly one for the future) and replace with Roberge. I'd drop our new LB in their (increase match fitness and another premier league standard game under his belt with no risk to PL points). I'd put Watmore in place of Whickham. Play the Danish kid in place of Giacc (don't want one of our creative players getting crocked)
Monty has taken some stick for his wanting Watmore in the first team. If we are talking about resting Fletcher, why not give the youngun his chance in this game? I for one, am up for seeing what he can do with the big boys. He has looked very impressive. To be quite honest if it was a choice between Wickham and Watmore. Watmore would get my vote.
