That's the nub of it. We have got no creative quality whatsoever. Unless an individual pulls a rabbit out of the hat (like Yann at Bournemouth), we are not going to score enough goals this season. I am not going to bother making a partisan anti CP point, suffice to say his brand of football bores me, he is totally one dimensional tactically, and other managers like Howe and Dickov on small budgets manage to get their sides playing possession football on the ground. How many of today's part timers will have been persuaded to pay £25 to watch Leeds next ?
I stopped going to football for a fiver cos of the bollocks on here abusing people like me who only go occasionally.I have done my share of watching charlton when they are crap like most of the the 70s and 80s so dont see why people on here think they have some moral high ground to occupy.
You are missing the point. We know people like you are genuine fans. The 10,000 who came along today didn't sing, didn't talk football, and around me, spent the entire game playing on their phones. It was nothing more than a cheap(ish) afternoon out.
I've got no problem with real supporters like you who go occasionally. I am now the same. I have not renewed my season ticket this year for a number of reasons and am picking and choosing. What I do object to are the Cretins who go to footy for a fiver and allow their ill mannered kids to spoil it for genuine fans like us. It happens very time an I've had enough of it.
I suspect with 23000 in the ground there are enough empty seat to move to a more well behaved section.
I was watching a recording of a Curbs team last week and actually found it quite depressing to see the difference not in ability but in desire to support each other, and get on the ball. In this team there are sometime no options but the big punt up the park.
That comes from the manager. Wood & Morrison are encouraged to smash it long to the strikers. Stewart has gone missing, he didn't beat his man or put a decent cross in once today. Pritchard will never be a winger as long as I have got a hole in my backside. Only Powell understands why he plays him there. If Yann is injured again, we badly need a loan striker this week.
I'm the biggest football for a fiver critic though around me is all season ticket holders the atmosphere was pretty pants though I thought the game quite open and have seen worse. I would have Harriott in the side for stewart the one plus we have had this season is Richard wood he has looked excellent when in the side . Would be nice to see ben Hamer get a bit of praise for a change 3 clean sheets on the spin deserves abit of credit. His handling was superb today and he dealt with everything well.
of course I havnt really stopped going to football for a fiver cos of posts on the internet[I am not that sensitive a soul] .The point I was making is that people who go regularly now dont hold any sort of moral high ground over those that go occasionally ever if they dont behave like "real"charlton fans. The point is we get 10000 POTENTIAL fans so it is up to us to convince them it is worth coming back.It isnt the responsibility of these people to behave in any particular way but perhaps for the 15000 regulars[and the 11 on the pitch] to make it such an enjoyable day that they WANT to come back.
Absolutely agree. The question which those 10,000 will ask themselves is, Should I fork out £25 or £30 to watch this entertainment next time round?
Hopefully the youngsters who went will remember this experience and maybe in future years when they realise its harder to go and see the big teams (Man Utd / City / Chelsea etc...) they'll return to the Valley more often. I was already a Charlton fan but they always used to let kids in for £1 / £4 in the late 90s which I took advantage of and enjoyed the matches so much they resulted in me getting a season ticket and I've never considered not getting one since
wilson man of the match for me. when he made that run in the second half the whole ground was shouting at sod all to get in the box. he only had to run from the centre circle to the box, and he did that in the same time wilson ran the length of the pitch. with a striker up front with church today we would have won. sod all needs to go. why we didnt go all out for obika, nguessian or schlupp...
I thought Wilson had a really good game today, but my life was he getting some stick from people around me. No, he's not Chris Solly - live with it! My MoM today was Richard Wood - calm, always had time and constructive with his distribution. Stephens wasn't far behind. That's the first time I've seen Sordell for any length of time and he was as bad as I'd been warned about. There's no good reason he should be in the side. Thought Stewart wasted most of the possession he had today and think Danny Green would have been a better bet if the Harriots are being 'rested'. Referee almost laughably bad, and the linos weren't much better. The West touchline one stood at the line of an offense and watched the Wigan player put the ball down three yards to his left and said nothing - unbelievable. Thought the antics of Holt and McArthur in trying to get players booked were a bloody disgrace. And finally, the behaviour of our occasional fans around me was dreadful. Whether taking incontinent children repeatedly to the toilet (one, four times in the first half - not even my dodgy prostate produces that sort of effect) or making frequent excursions for burgers, drinks and sweets they were a thorough pain the arse. Why can these people never find their seats again? Some of them were wandering around like lost sheep. Seriously, how difficult can it be?
I agree that run from Wilson was first rate but man of the match for me was Hamer and I am usually one of his critics. Schlupp and n'guessan are now elsewhere and there is no sign of Obika being released by Tottenham who appear to have locked him in a room and not given him a squad number. However, my eyes might have decieved me but I thought I may have seen Camerling at the ground today being shown around by someone from the club in the players area of the lower west. could be wrong and probably am but his goal against west ham was pretty good and he showed a bit of desire. His early days at Nancy showed some promise and it may be that some time in the english league could rekindle that. Probably wishful thinking that we might have a cheap alternative to Sodall.
There was also that terrific overlap run Wilson made just before the end, but Pritchard either didn't see him or ignored him, and chipped a harmless ball forward into the box, whereas Wilson would have been in a great position to cut the ball back from the by-line, which he's good at, and with time to spare too.
Yes you are right scratching Camerling was being shown around today. He hasn't signed yet but I believe we are trying to agree a deal. What that deal is I have no idea. I thought Stephens was my Man of the Match. Closely followed by Wood and Wilson. Pritchard has got a good engine and puts himself about but he is clearly lacking any sort of quality. Stewart was totally ineffective and kept checking back on his right foot. Sordell is a disgrace, the minimum requirement you require from a player is effort and he showed none. There were a number of times when he showed no desire to get in the penalty area.
I have no idea what the terms of Sordell's loan are, but Bolton must be wetting themselves with laughter. The player made it clear he didn't want to join us, and his performances have proved it. Its time for CP to swallow his pride on that deal, and sent Sordell back. Stewart has turned out to be one of those ten a penny pros who has one good game in six #LloydSam, and has already had about six clubs for a reason. Another dud. With 9 goals in 12 league games, and not a creative spark in sight, what is the plan now ?
