I was going to post an article on this, but I decided to try making a video about it including me on the mic. Please watch, rate and comment and say whether or not you disagree. Thanks[NSFW][/NSFW]Summary - I think the way newspaper articles are allowed to be published about a player accused of rape is wrong and needs to stop. Please turn up the sound a tad because it recorded quieter than I thought it would.

Edit - The video is now underneath a NSFW banner for people watching at work.

You speak well fella.

It riles me when any fans (even our own when Bramble played for SAFC) spout off about footballers being rapists.

There should be statutory protection for everyone to ensure their names aren't released until a guilty verdict is reached (or not).

Thanks. I was afraid that the fact that I'm soft spoken would make it hard for people to stay with me or just click off the video because they couldn't hear me.

Not at all.
The spoken word helps convey feeling a lot more than written does.
Just please don't do your match review like that tomorrow it will be mayhem :)

I'm not sure which Remy (and his legal team btw) might object to most of all...

The way the opening preview frame labels his face a RAPIST! or that the YouTube play button is positioned thus to give him a Hitler-esque 'tache. Tash.

The phrase "double edged-sword" has probably never been more apt.

Remy's face alongside the word rapist is an apt thumbnail because it symbalises the unfair labeling of people not yet found guilty. Some people will react to do without listening, but I think what I say in the video is the important thing.

I've popped in inside a NSFW wrapper though as, if someone is browsing at work... it may look odd to some of their bosses :)

No I know what you're trying to say, but unfortunately most will see the association without watching the video. Not now obviously.

But in an ironic sort of way it comes back to your original point. I think especially online there's a sense that unproven accusations can be made or reinforced without consequence, which is largely where the problems come from these days.

Online stuff like this can spread like wildfire gossip, branding people guilty no matter what outcome any trial has.

I mean, how often are people's reputation left completely unblemished by an innocent verdict even? Doesn't stop the jokes and the implication they did it only to luckily get off the hook...

Trouble is most these days want dirt and for successful, high-profile people to be guilty no matter what the facts are.
Usually it suits your own personal agenda, so if Remy had scored goals for QPR to send NUFC down last season it would have been tempting for most of us to angrily ask why 'such an individual' was allowed to play football.

Can I ask why it is you're so obsessed with rape Tash? We seemingly have a thread on the topic every month...

Doesn't seem so long ago that one caused quite a stir.

why only footballers? It should be like this across the board, no names until someone's found guilty.
