I'm sorta with Al on this one as I understand everything he is saying and feeling, but I'm still really enjoying it for however long it lasts.
I still recall my mate at Kirkella GC telling me about Duffen's golf day for friends costing thousands on HCAFC expenses.. NO THANK YOU
Thanks to Paul Duffen and Phil Brown (and the Allams), today's kids can grow up and support their local team without fear of ridicule. They may well not even know who non league Grimsby are, and never have to travel there to see their team battle for points.
Paul Duffen was paid circa £5,000 pw for the job he did. Approx £650,000 during his tenure of two and a half years. These were his wages and I make no other comment on his other activities/revenue streams. He told people he would not be prepared to bring his best car to Hull and expressed surprise that Hull fc fans could read and write. The idea that this ****wit is hanging about the club like a bad smell appalls me but I do understand why Assem Allam would find him useful to have about. A more fitting reward for the job he did here and the piss taking of our fair city and its citizens would involve a drum, concrete, and a boat as far as I'm concerned. Let's hope our owner squeezes what relevant info he can out of him for a bit of loose change and fxxks him off.
I'd be surprised if any Premier League chairman was paid as little as five grand a week. As for the comments about Hull fans- he was right wasn't he?
Duffen declared to the court his earnings when he was involved in a motoring offence so I have every reason to believe it to be true. As for the comments about Hull fans, it wasn't true. It was a direct attempt to take the piss out of every citizen and as I pointed out, this was not the only example. It is entirely up to Mr Allam to decide who he employs and in what role at the club but I truly hope it never involves him giving a major role to the ****wit that almost bankrupted the club once and for all.
If he only earned that, thane kudos to him then for his modest salary. The Hull fans being illiterate was at some fans forum wasn't it? It was well received and went down a storm although David Burns winced, anticipating the reaction from the tubby lards.
No idea why that guys not enjoying it, i am loving it. I admit that football is not the same, but neither is life, neither is the world. The world is always going to evolve and football will evolve, we have to live in the 21st century not the 20th century. Why should you hate other teams? I would much rather go to the pub with opposing fans before and after the game and have a chat about football in a sensible manner. 15 Years ago we where bottom of the football league, now we are in the top division in one of the best leagues in the world, if you can't enjoy that then there is something wrong with you.
We have risen to the top after 108 years to find it's bland, money-driven and an ersatz experience. But that's not City's fault. Consider the fact that nearly all northern clubs had their heydays back before WW1 or in the 1920s. They'd all been there before and won things when their was less competition from the South. Uniquely among the northern clubs, we've taken over a century to get up there.
At the time of the court case, the mighty tigers were in the premier league. £5k a week was declared to the court. A false declaration in respect of earnings would be a criminal offence in itself. I think this figure can be relied upon unless anyone else can show it to be wrong. 650k for taking the club to hell on a handcart. Paul Duffen was the architect of the clubs near liquidation.
Many executives in this country earn seemingly small sums. Many of them do so for tax avoidance reasons and many earn far, far more from non-salaried earnings than they do from what is reported to be their contracted fees.
I have a sneaky feeling you're right TWF. Adam Pearson, the man who turned Hull Kingston Rovers into the number one superleague club in Humberside. Quite an achievement in itself but I doubt his involvement with egg chasing will help him get back into football at any level at any club, the chance of him darkening the door at Hull City is nil and for that I am grateful.
Yeah he ruined an underachieving football club, got us promoted twice, got us numerous U21 international games, got us making money again, doubled the gates, completely transformed the ramshackle almost nonleagueset up he found into a serious and respected championship club etc ****ing booo, Pearson.......
