CITY vice chairman Jon Lansdown remains upbeat despite the team’s poor start to the season.

Recalling a nine-match losing streak under Gary Johnson’s management back in 2005, Lansdown insists it is possible to recover in League One.

City hauled themselves off the foot of the table shortly before Christmas under Johnson and embarked on a long unbeaten run that saw them just miss out on the play-offs seven years ago.

“We’ve been in this division before and for long enough to know that you can go on a long winning run,” said Lansdown. “I remember us winning nine in a row under Danny Wilson.

“That is far more difficult to do in the Championship, but you can put those runs together in League One.

“It is different from the Championship but, at the same time, you still need a certain number of points to stay up.

“If you look at the squad, you can see we have the quality, more so than we had in the Championship.”

City’s board of directors are prepared to back head coach Sean O’Driscoll in the transfer market and Lansdown is not ruling out a loan signing with a view to a permanent deal further down the road.

He revealed: “There are options open to us and we can do loans with a view.

“We don’t just want to settle for the easiest option and that is very often what a loan is. At this time of year, most of those who are available on loan have either not played much football or are coming back from injuries.

“It is a notorious time for taking a player and not having him fully fit for the whole of the loan spell.

“It is a case of making sure we make the right decision.”

So Jon Lansdown thinks we can put together a winning run similar to the 9 games under Danny Wilson some years ago, and that putting a winning run is easier in L1 than the Championship? The best we've done in the past two seasons is win 2 in a row, and of course no wins this season, so I've no idea where thinks a winning streak is going to come from. Right now I'd be happy with a ONE match winning run.

I'm not sure if I'm "happier" after Landown speaks or when he stays in hiding and says nothing.

Perhaps Lansdown was right after all... we're finally on a winning run of one match!

More quality now than in the Championship ?
In my dreams maybe, but where is the Maynard, the Cisse or the Hartley ?

No, the truth is if we want to make a push next season (provided we stay up of course) then money will have to be spent, because we DO NOT have the quality. If this team got promotion next season (because it can happen in dreams) we would find ourselves in the Guinness book of embarrassing tits ups
Frankly if we are still in Div 1 next season it will be a massive achievement

I don't know, next year we get Kelly back so the centre of midfield will improve
