Everton want to sign Danny Welbeck on loan from Manchester United after he impressed with Sunderland last term. ..But Black Cats boss Steve Bruce will have something to say about that, as he too wants to take the 20-year-old for another season at the Stadium of Light. Sir Alex Ferguson is still weighing up the best options for the striker having initially told him to report back to Old Trafford and prepare to go on the clubâs pre-season summer tour to America. But having handed Michael Owen a new one-year deal, and with Premier League top scorer Dimitar Berbatov still in the ranks, Welbeckâs situation is now under review. David Moyes is desperately searching for goals in the transfer market, and Welbeck would fit the bill having excelled in his preferred forward role at Sunderland. But Bruce may hold the trump card when it comes to negotiations, as the England international is already comfortable in the north-east. Do we want Wellbeck on loan? .
First reaction is no, we dont want loan players, we are not here to train United players, we either buy him or look at other players. Deep down, well not that deep, yes if they wont sell then a loan will do me, we know he fits in.
Agree about not wanting loans with no option to buy. But there would be sound logic in having him for another year as cover for Frazier until he recovers, hopefully Unless SAF sells Berb or another striker, Welbeck may not even make the bench at OT. Because he and Gyan appear to partner very well, I would have him in preference to any journeyman striker signing, for next season anyhow. TBH I would rather see him at SAFC than banging them in for anybody else like Everton.
The last scentence is spot on Danny, if he bangs them in for Everton next season we will be gutted, I would rather take him on loan again as you say as cover for fraiser and then watch him bang them in for Man U the season after. We will be competing against Everton next season in similar positions in the league (hopefully) so rather have Welbeck on our side even on loan.
I would take him on loan straight away. As someone else said he is perfect cover for Campbell while he is injured. I would much prefer a permanent move but needs must. Why we don't offer 15million with a buy back clause I will never know. Gyan & Welbeck with some investment in the midfield = top 8 next season I am sure of it.
I'd love to have him for another season. He might go back after but att he end of the day he is quality and if he stays for seasons it will be longer than Darren "Judas" B£nt anyway!
Since yesterday's story with us looking to sign the 3 Man U players permanently, surely we could tie a loan for Wellbeck into the deal with Everton sniffing around. I reckon he'll be class one day.
Obviously I'd love us to sign him permanently and Lever that's a good point about a buy-back clause. I know we're suffering now because we had 5 on loan and now we've got gaps to fill, but I still think the loan system has a place. If we got Welbeck on a season long loan again I'd be delighted. The problem was having 5 season-long loanees- one wouldn't bother me (although obviously I'd rather buy him!) Like a few have said, makes sense as if we own 3 strikers, and have Welbeck on loan, the loan essentially covers Campbell's return to fitness and form throughout this year. And then in the summer Gyan/Signing/N'Gog/Welbeck becomes Gyan/Signing/N'Gog/Campbell..
On the topic of Welbeck, whats the craic with Sturridge? He's in a very similar position to Danny- young, English, quality, but with chances limited at a CL club. I'd snap him up as well. Rooney, Berba, Hernandez, Owen at Utd, and Chelsea have Torres, Drogba, Anelka and are looking at Neymar or Aguero or whoever? I'd love to sign Sturridge and get Welbeck back on loan for the year. That would be ace.
The Mags didn't want to sell Carroll (or so they said); we didn't want to sell Henderson (or so the club said) but both were sold when the readies were produced. We should look to sign Welbeck permanently and go in with a bid of £10m. He scored nearly as many goals as Caroll last year and he went for £36m. I reckon a price of £10m or £12m will secure the lad and he linked up well with Gyan as has been said. Add to that DJ Campbell (2nd top English scorer last season) for his reportedly £1m buy out clause and maybe then N'Gog wont seem like the disaster it looks like to me this morning. Loans are fine with foreign players as you need to know if they can settle but with an English lad who knows the club already the risk is lessened massively. SAF will want funds to try and match Barcelona and Welbeck, good young player that he is, wont be that step up for Utd as they look to compete at Europe's top table.
Definitely would take Welbeck back on loan! Obviously would prefer to sign him permanently. I think he's the ideal kind of partner for Gyan, i don't see a big lump of a striker suiting Gyan as most ppl on here suggest. Welbeck and Sturridge would have me in dream land!
Yes...think he'd score a load of goals. Also, Gyan not only partners well with him, he likes him. Keep Gyan happy I say, can't lose him under any circumstances.
We should be going all out to sign Welbeck and not the 3 amigos (Gibson, Brown & O'shea). Welbeck will progress Sunderland football club, the others will not, although I would give Gibson a chance as he does offer something. However if getting Welbeck on loan for another season stops old, money hungry journey men like Pav, Crouch coming up here then so be it. At least Danny likes Sunderland and the city, rather have players like this than the 2 i mentioned previously. I also agree with keane prods giant where Gyan will not be suited to a big lump of a centre forward, he needs quick feet and link up player and people to spin off defenders and run onto his flicks over the top (Welbeck/Sessegnon).
Would only take him if it is on our terms - not Red-nosed SAF's. When Campbell fit, we should be able to drop him. Loans aren't doing us any good. Sign a contract, dedicate youself to that club. Commit to do an honest job. Why give a competitor a) insight into your operation and b) experience in the market.
