If I'm honest I thought we were a bit lucky last night, if they had a decent strong forward up front I think we would of struggled. They played some nice football (better than us in my opinion). I thought Whelps did well and remains one of the very few players we have that will create chances. But the best player on the pitch by a country mile was their number 20 (sorry dont know his name), but he was taken off when they needed a goal!! Im expecting Kiwomya to be given the boot very soon....
Are you genuinely saying you can't believe why Gregory is a better player???? I'd sooner see a player who can do his job adequately and DOESN'T need someone telling him what to do and covering his ass on the field than someone who repetitively gets out of position and needs baby sitting. That's exactly why Gregory is, right now, the better option and that's exactly why both Martin Allen and then Peter Taylor have started Gregory AHEAD of Linganzi. Maybe Linganzi is lacking match practice and with a few substitute performances and training sessions he will get back in the mix for the starting role, but last night showed nothing to suggest he is a better player nor did it suggest he should be starting ahead of him. Thank god you aren't on our scouting/coaching staff! You basically quoted the exact reason as to why Gregory is our better option right now. Linganzi has a high ceiling and promise but I haven't seen enough yet.
Damo - I don't really see the need to get into an argument with you as clearly you're a complete egg. I'd suggest that 80-90% of Gills fans DO NOT rate Gregory, and believe me it's not because he doesn't score a lot or too the tricks and turns, it's because he gives the ball away most of the time he gets it, and i watch pretty much most games home and away so don't tell me that my eyes can't see now! If you read properly, i actually said he did OK last night, one of his better performances, but from what i've seen of them both, Linganzi has much more quality and keeps the ball the majority of the time. He hasn't started since the Wolves game due to international appearances and then injury, in the first 2 games of the season (Colchester & Wolves) he was our stand out player, clearly injury will slow him down. Would you have sooner him smear there player all over the ground last night when he was running through, i've played midfield to a reasonable standard, and i was always told to hold players up and let them shoot from 25-30 yards rather than play a ball through because the majority of the time it isn't going to go in, watch the highlights, it was a great goal. Clealry I touched some sort of nerve with you, perhaps your a relative of Gregory, but it's quite plainly obvious that he is a weak point in our team due to his inability to keep the ball and im sure PT will eventually see fit to leave him out (you're also forgetting that MA out him on the transfer list) so i'm also pleased that you're not on our coaching staff, as i'm sure many others are.
I wasn`t at the game,so did what I usually do when I can`t make the game and listened to gillsplayer. From listening to the game it seemed County had the better of the first 20 minutes, but we scored twice from exploiting their weak defence. They said that they looked weak defensively and I thought if we could get a third goal we would kill the game off.As we saw 2-0 is a dangerous scoreline and once they pulled a goal back it was a very nervy 20 or so minutes.I read a few Tweets that said we looked weaker once we took Gregory off, which shows he was important for us.It was a big win in terms of what it meant,as County will be down there with us all season and you have to beat your rivals at home.I targeted 4-6 points from the two home games, but three is still a good total as we beat a side down there with us.I read County played the better Football and if they had a bit better quality they could have got something,so it`s one win,but an important one.
The Notts County fans on the League 1 board seem to back this view up. After all the praise he was getting on our boards, I thought County fans would be praising him and vilifying their manager. They are indeed vilifying the manager, but they seem to despise Jamal Campbell-Ryce, and comments about him being egotistical, selfish, useless, show pony, etc etc. It was also the only decent game he's played this season if you believe their fans. Apparently he (or his agent) was trying to shop him around some wealthy Asian clubs in the summer.
