After today potential signings of Jones for United and Henderson for Liverpool which club do you think has got the better value deal and which player would you rather have ?
Abit premature to talk about which deal is better, Henderson cost more yes but if his performances helped Liverpool to silverware then he'd be the better signing regardless of fee.
If both deals go through id say Jones is by far the better deal; unlike with henderson no ones really questioned his price tag as he has played like a player thats worth that much in todays over inflated market where as henderson has lots of potential but is probably only worth around 14/15 million not the 20mil + ngog or including ngog that has been agreed on
Difficult to tell at this stage. A lot depends on how they fit into their respective teams. Although I am surprised that the deals ended up that way. We're the ones who need a CM, when Liverpool already seem to have three that they are happy with. Likewise, we already have three top class CBs and decent backups in Evans and O'Shea, whilst Liverpool have Agger who is crocked, Carragher who is 33, and Skrtel who is ****. It seems like the two clubs would have done better by signing the other player, although I'm not sure Henderson would be an automatic first choice even in the current Utd midfield.
I think it's good business, he's young, well touted, English, and a reasonable price. Works well with Smalling, and with our ageing injury prone CB'S he is a long term ideal. Everyone(including myself) has harped on about a CM, how far into negotiations are we do not know, just because the Jones deal is near to completion doen't mean that latter is work in progress, give things a chance, do everyone actually think that the "jONES" transfer just happened overnight? - this must of been mooted some time ago!
I think we had our eye on him and Liverpool's interest made us jump in earlier than planned. I'm fairly sure he wasn't on this summers shopping list but he must be seen to be excellent potential for us to move to prevent him going to Liverpool or the Arse. That clearly can't be said of Henderson as we didn't compete for him.
If he has been signed for that much money do we think that could mean the end for Vidic? I doubt he would come in for that price to sit on the bench. Though can't he play in Defensive Midfield? Maybe not this season but perhaps Vidic has indicated he wants to play elsewhere. I think it is a fantastic sign that in the future our CB pairing for many years will be two young English players. Good signing.
Course he would come in and sit on the bench... only the biggest headed 19 year olds would think they could move to United and go straight into the position which is our most strongest.
£16m was the agreed fee minus £6.5 for Ngog. £9.5 paid in installments with potentially another £3.5m to bring to £19.5 based on appearances/goals/assists etc. He has played 71 premiership games against Jones 34 appearances who's costing £17m altho im unsure on how the payments are working with the deal. The only way of claiming who got the better deal is to judge them next May! (providing they both sign!)
However considering that nobody on here has a crystal ball ( well maybe Valencia25 does with his Nani predictions ) it's simply asking for current opinion on the transfers.
I know the lad would do as he is told but it seems like Ferguson has rushed into this one. Maybe he knows Vidic or Ferdinand will not be at the club come Summer 2012 and so he had planned to sign Jones then but the interest from Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs has made him go in for him now. This season we are going to have an embarrassment of riches at CB. Smalling played his fair share last season but will there be room this year for Jones as well?
We haven't bought a 19 year old centre half to replace Vidic now, he's for the future. He will sit on the bench, as any 19 year old would be absolutely privileged to do, and he'll learn his trade. It's Ferdinand who'll be gone before before Vidic anyway, his injury record is taking its toll. Both seem good signings with the potential to be excellent signings. It's impossible to tell who got the best deal.
I agree, as I said in my earlier post, we have an ageing crock at CB as in Rio, and Wes, Vidic is not in that equation - but could get injured or suspended, I do not however think he is leaving OT anytime soon, he's fully commited to United.
