According to a variety of Leeds United related web sites, it looks like Dexter Blackstock is about to join us on loan from Nottingham Forest. Blackstock is a forward and if successful, he may join permanently after his loan deal ends. We were after this chap in January, but failed to get him.

Curious why rivals would loan us a player that could improve us. Seem to remember him being impressive a couple of seasons back. No idea of his recent form though

He was actually about to join Brighton on loan, until Leeds showed interest again, and he appears to want to come to ER. The Brighton Argus newspaper has stated today that Brighton appear to have lost out in the race to sign Blackstock to Leeds United.

Will the fact we are beating someone else to a signing shut the usual moaners up? (You know who you are).

    e

Very prolific - has scored 32 goals in the last 5 seasons (2 of those were in the famous 7-3 victory and 5 of that 32 were against Leeds <yikes>) although he hasn't scored in over a year.

If he is a crock no doubt your lot will happily stump up his wages.

Nah - we couldn't match his £18k per week Forest wages - we can only afford to pay for half of Morison's wages FFS <ok>

I'd have him but wouldn't start him. Let Smith and RM carry on the good form. Imo a proper olden days partnership. McCormack the skill full, pacey no.10 and Smith the clinical 6 foot something giant no.9 have Blackstock ready if it dries up.

Reports suggest that BMD wants a bigger squad, fighting for places, thus Blackstock would be a good signing to keep the forwards on their toes.

I couldn't resist Glory. Can't have you getting too carried away. Btw messi is too small, Ronaldo loves himself too much and bales a crock so don't want any of them :D

After yesterday not sure we really need anyone for a while. Poleon is a good impact sub who can only get better. Varney isn't that bad and can still do a job. Hunt's career at ER is probably over. Morrison probably won't come back to us. And the Smith/McCormack partnership clearly has possibilities.

Just can't see where Blackstock would fit in, or why he would accept playing 2nd fiddle to Ross/Smith and Poleon and/or Poleon and Varney.

Don't agree Boggers. It's not unusual at some point in the season to be missing three or four players due to injury or suspension. Our squad at present would not cope with that. McD has been lucky in that he almost always has a full squad to pick from. I'd rather have Blackstock as standby than the likes of Barney or hunt

Fair point Eire, but I'm not sure that Varney should be pushed down the pecking order any further. I also think we really have enough forwards already. I seem to recall Diouf can also play up top as well. Really not sure we need anymore for the moment, but happy to be proved wrong.

Varney is an absolute crock of ****e. Can't jump, can't hold up play, can't dribble, can't shoot and his headers can go in any direction cos he has a head shaped like a pyramid.

Boggers don't agree with you mate over Hunt don't think his career with us is over. More likely we're going to push Varney back on to the wing or get rid. Agree with Glory, Varney is Crock we should have got rid of him in the summer.

Make this signing and we are looking very competitive upfront, think we could still use a CB as well (if zaliukas proves his worth that could be ideal) to increase competition there (despite all 3 cbs playing well against brum). Then we have the obvious lack of width still so would still have to be looking for a wide player as well. I think that the first team isn't looking bad but we need to look at the squad at the moment. Especially with the adopted 3-5-2/5-3-2 formation we played assuming we continue with that, if Byram gets injured for example we really don't have a replacement other than perhaps Green but he just doesn't offer anywhere near as much going forward.

I think thats what McD is looking at to be honest and then I think we would have a top 6 squad and none of those signings would have to be out of this world good either, all realistic possibilities imo. but would more likely happen in Jan if at all
