Unfortunately the team of the week will always largely comprise of players from winning teams. Agree about Davies though - he has been outstanding so far this season.
I've hated the guy since he nearly scored against us in the FA cup at White Hart Lane in 1981. I also hate the tossers who rained coins on us from the seats behind the terracing. I decided that day that I didn't like Hoddle either. Not that I'm bitter after all these years, far from it.
The simple answer is no - he wont have watched the game. He, like all media naming a team of the week, will just pick a team made up of winners and keepers / defenders who conceded few and midfielders / strikers who scored or assisted. Simple as. The personal performance doesnt come into it.
I like Garth Crooks, easily one if the best pundits around. I don't understand the almost unanimous hatred of every pundit.
Best pundit by an absolute mile is Stewart Robson, however sadly he is largely overlooked by the mainstream media. His knowledge and insight beyond the obvious headlines puts his peers to shame. He's a joy to listen to.
Blimey even his BBC colleagues regularly laugh at his eccentricity. As for the 4th Round FA Cup game in 81 I remember him and Steve Archibald missing a stack of chances only for a sub of the name of Gary Brookes to come on and break our hearts in the last 8 mins...
I've heard stories about that game, about what came from the home fans behind the away section. Some pretty vile stuff...
Don't recall any Spurs fans being behind us in the away end - same away end as now but a shed of a stand then - I believe we took over 3000 to the game and the attendance of 37,432 was bigger than the next round against fellow first division side Coventry. I do remember one or two or our coaches lined up near the ground being bricked though - the area was toilet even back then..
Maybe a different game then. All I know is it was an FA cup tie before I was born where a late spurs winner brought an avalanche of 'pleasantries' raining down from above/behind.
Definitely home fans in seats behind us. I was at the very back of the terracing, with a few police stood behind us. They didn't seem bothered by all the coins coming down. Spurs next home game was in the league against Arsenal and I seem to recall the attendance was about 2000 less than our game.
