Too many ifs, buts and maybes in this speculation; ES is a self made man who knows the ropes of finance and has doubtless taken advice on a football route to take, hence going for the Udinese system which everyone was admiring a few months ago. Two wins and a settled team with a system and we can all pout our hymn sheets away.
the rot set in A LONG TIME before Ellis took over. around 2001 i'd say when we failed to build on what we had....which was good. it will take the man 5 years to turn this sinking ship around, and the hands on deck aren't helping. hence the new crew. the stuff on profit generation etc is nonsense. we have to balance the books or go bust. which would you rather us do?

Mannone- Back up Wattmore- Development squad Ba- Development squad Mavrias- Development squad Moberg-Karlsson- Development squad, Ki- Doing a Fine job Giacc- Doing a good job, needs a season to fully settle but will get better month by month. Jozy- Showed he's decent, getting the wrong sort of service, needs a season to fully settle but will get better month by month. Celustka- Showed he's decent, needs a season to fully settle but will get better month by month. Cabral- **** knows what's happening. But when you sign 14 players you have to accept there'll be flops. Borini- Played less than 45 minutes, can't be judged yet. Dossena- Not played, can't be judged yet. Diakité- Very little playing time, looks decent, needs a season to settle but will get better month by month. Roberge- Looks tailor made for new philosophy, needs a season to settle but will get better month by month. Bare in mind di fanti was working to a strict budget and there's no value in british based players on transfer fee or wage and the fact we only had a senior squad of 19 players at the start of the window meant Di Fanti was in a very very difficult situation to work in. I know you're thinking that we don't have a season to wait and I agree entirely, unfortunately it's not the way the world works is it? Some will come good quicker, some later, some not at all. I still think it's very unfair to judge 14 new signings after 8 league games. Infact it staggers me that some folk have written some of them off. I think they're living in a fantasy land where everything should be perfect in an instant and if it's not it's a disaster. 8 league games and they're getting flack. Some of the other ****ers have done nowt in seasons.
Good call on that mate sure there are some ex players/managers of a decent level who could give Ellis a hand with the football side.
Then he should be director of administration or something of that ilk IMO a dof understands the sport rather than the associated finances
I maybe should've explained the point a little better as I totally agree with your point. There are two ways of becoming profitable, the long term aim backed by serious investment and achievable success (Probably Europa Cup quali and/or a decent couple of domestic cup runs would be the aim) or slash your costs and live within your means but this option probably means heading out of the Premiership for a season or two whilst this Udinese model kicks on and previous mistakes (Players contracts etc.) are corrected. Having looked at what Short actually does for a living with other companies my concern is that this isn't a long term affair for him. He's bought the ailing club and is looking to turn it's fortunes round as a BUSINESS not the city's Premier sports team and then sell it on for HIS profit not the clubs. This is my one worry. I think the behind the scenes business stuff he is putting in place, sponsorship etc., is spot on. My worry is his long-term commitment to the club. I've said on previous posts I don't go to the game very often but many on here spend their hard earned following the team and are extremely passionate about it. I admire you all greatly, your knowledge of the game and how players are performing is vastly greater than mine. I'm just looking at things from a slightly different perspective that my experience allows me too.
Don't take the name so literally fella, the DoF's jobs is to take care of the day to day running of the football club away from the pitch with duties which include Transfers, Contracts and Development to ease the burden on the Head Coach leaving him to focus his attention on coaching, tactics and of course Match days. He's arranged more contracts and transfers then them up the road have had hot dinners. He's got a real football man by his side with a pedigree of spotting talent to Identify talent and targets. Quinn (love his socks) has failed in two of the tasks of our DoF football and as for recruitment, he had Pop by his side with two stamps in his passport, a ferry to Ireland and his holidays to Turkey.
all fair points, fella. it is a concern, i.e. his long-term plans, but that still means he has to mould us into a good footballing club to be a good business (prospect). and I didn't mean to sound that irate when i put my points across this morning!! but I'm miffed like everyone else - it beggars belief that we are 'back in this position'. it's like a really ****ty version of groundhog day, or catch 22.

This restructure was always going to take seasons to bare fruit. Until we shift this lot in their last year, our hands are tied on the transfer front unless Ellis feels he can take a risk in Jan. 100% faith in it. Just needs time to kick off the shackles of the old structure before I can personally Judge if it's going to work or not..
I know this seems daft but if we can survive this season, then these new players will be much better in their second season as they will be settled. They were good gambles made in the plans we wouldn't lose 7 of our first 8 games and lose the new manager after 13 games. If we are relegated then we are up **** creek as they won't be worth bot all in a fire sale except Giacherinni and Fletcher maybe.
I feel for Giacherinni in some sort of demented way, I mean. How can you feel for somebody on his money? Career wise though he must be thinking he's just committed suicide and I wont be surprised if he's a distant memory come February.
I don't know mate. He was dropped from the Italian squad and has gone on to score 3 in 8 in a struggling team (Struggling is an understatement), which is exceptional for his positions and won his place back in the Italian Squad. It's going alright for him personally and he's fully earned that recall. Imagine if the defence could tighten up so our attacking player could express themselves. Giacc has world class written all over him and I think he'll be our top scorer this season. Think he'll get 10 with the team in this form. I bet he goes to Brazil anarl.
