    Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is trying to do a cut-price deal for Sweden forward Ola Toivonen.
    Toivonen, who can play as a striker or attacking midfielder, has turned down a new deal at Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.
    He looks set to be out of contract at the end of the season.
    PSV are demanding £2.5m to do a deal in January rather than lose him for free.
    Norwich, Fulham and Italy's Fiorentina were keen on the 27-year-old in the summer, and now the Magpies are in the picture.

    Haven't seen enough of him to comment. We certainly are crying out for a striker who can make it stick and bring others into play though.

    So as usual, we make it known who we'll put in a cut-price bid for, drawing attention to them while making it clear to other clubs that it will be easy to out-bid us.

    Is this the astute business policy for maximising commercial opportunities that JK supposedly refers to?

    It's going to be more "we tried" ****.

    However, whenever we sign big it's usually in January, so I'm somewhat hopeful.

    He's a midfielder. Cabaye, Anita, Tiote, Sissoko, Gutierrez, Marveaux, Bigirirama, Ameobi, Vukcic... Yes you certainly need a another midfielder...

    Part of Pards strategy, pack the team with 10 midfielders and let them play both attack and defence.
