Lomas: Disrupting QPR's passing game is key for Millwall

by Alex Aldridge (@accordingtoaldo) on October 18, 2013

STEVE Lomas wants his players to come flying out of the traps against QPR on Saturday as Millwall bid to avoid a third straight defeat.
The Lions return to action after the two-week international break when they host Harry Redknapp's side at The Den and Lomas has called for a high-intensity performance.

Millwall were beaten heavily by Birmingham and Bournemouth on their last two outings, but Lomas is confident his troops will produce a reaction in front of their own home fans.
Second-placed QPR are still unbeaten in the league and have conceded just two goals all season, so the Lions boss is under no false illusions as to the size of the task his team face.

"It is an exciting challenge for all of us," he said. "QPR are obviously a very good side, so it will be tough, but these are the games you want to play in.

"We need to get back to the level of performance we produced against Blackpool and Leeds. We need to be in their faces, high-energy but also disciplined and solid.

"It's important that we disrupt their passing game because they like to pop the ball around. We need to get the crowd going because they can be a big help too."

On-loan QPR midfielder Shaun Derry is ineligible to play against his parent club, but he echoed Lomas' sentiments when asked how best to approach the match.

"I think it needs to be a tight game," he said. "If you show your cards to QPR, they have the attacking options to really hurt you. At the same time, we don't want to stop doing what's brought us success this year, which has been working on the front foot.

"In our three back-to-back victories, we took the game to the opposition so we can't change that. It's a bit of a dilemma because QPR are very strong defensively but at the same time they've got attacking options that can really cause you problems at this level.

"We've looked at the way QPR play and we're hopeful that we can get something out of the game. Every club is at this level for a reason so we are capable of beating anyone that is put in front of us. That has to be our mentality on Saturday."

I'd love it if they come and have a go. We've got the quality players who can utilise the space they leave behind and hopefully finish them off. I reckon that they'll park the bus and be happy with a point though.

I cant see them parking the bus as they are the Home team. They wont want to do that infront of their own fans, which could work in our favour.

I also feel they will park the bus but will play more of a counter attacking game.

They will not park the bus lads as I have said this week they will break it up and spoil it and look to set plays. I think we will grab a goal and then it could be a landslide ... very important fixture this as most other teams in the league will have a rough ride here ... we get nothing from this game then expect a big panic on here from the fickle

We've heard this week in week out from mangers & players they will do this & do that to disrupt our team, but the end outcome is always win for QPR baring brighton, i rest my case & i think other teams should.

A local derby can quite often have an outcome that goes against the form book.

Harry will be very much aware of this.

So will be interesting to see we cope. First 20 mins will be crucial, if we can keep them quiet, with limited opportunities, then we have the class to wear them down

I think your right about the pickles that will panic, we will have so many told you so's and that we should sack that w***** Redknapp saying that they could see happening 2 months before Harry joined we will have the QPR version of Monthy Python's 4 Yorkshire men ;)

Surely if they keep it tight and wait for set pieces we should win. Dunne and hill gobble up set pieces. I much more fear a small nippy team but are there in the championship?

It didn't stop Matt Lucas and the Leeds fans didn't like it one bit.

Get with the programme Flanners, you are behind the times. If we win or draw,Harold is a genius. If we lose the players are ****ers and let him down. At least that is what he will say.

I think they'll steal the bus, drive it onto some wasteground and set it alight. Then throw stones at the Fire Brigade.

One thing that will be in our favour is the home fans are itching to have a go at Steve Lomas, he's lost two on the trot and if we get on top early they'll be baying for his blood. The first half hour is where we can do the damage...

Agree, Lomas has been saying they will come out hard, so if we can keep them quiet they will get frustrated
