v View attachment 26992 Saturday 19th October 2013 3pm kick-off Referee: Kevin Wright After a two week break for the Internationals, Football League action returns this weekend with Charlton travelling to Ewood Park where they face Blackburn Rovers, this is a fixture which has seen a few highs and lows for Charlton over the years including a 1-1 draw which clinched Promotion straight back to the Premier League and on the other end of the scale a disastrous 4-1 defeat (Operation Ewood) which saw the Addicks move ever closer to relegation from the Premier League seven years later. The Opposition Over the last 20 years Blackburn like most clubs have been through it all... After winning the Premier League in 1995, they've since struggled to reach the dizzy heights again and after two seperate relegations (the only Premier League Champions to do so) they've a lot of work to get back in the top division alone. These Days some would say the club is a complete mess, four managers (Kean, Berg, Appleton and Bowyer) in a season narrowly saw them beat the drop to League One and after a stronger start this season they'll be looking for a Play-Off place at the least. Key Men Blackburn's key man needs no introduction... Jordan Rhodes at the end of the day is one of the hottest Striker outside of the Premier League, after free scoring in League One for Huddersfield Town, Rhodes has taken no time in adjusting to the style of the Championship. Previous Meetings 19.01.2013 - Blackburn Rovers 1-2 Charlton Athletic (Rhodes; Stephens, Kermorgant) 29.09.2013 - Charlton Athletic 1-1 Blackburn Rovers (Jackson; Etuhu) 28.04.2007 - Blackburn Rovers 4-1 Charlton Athletic (Roberts, Hreidarsson (OG), Derbyshire; D.Bent) 05.12.2006 - Charlton Athletic 1-0 Blackburn Rovers (El-Karkouri) Charlton Team News Fresh from scoring against Macedonia, Simon Church returns unscathed after the International break along with unused substitute Rhoys Wiggins... Chris Powell has confirmed that Johnnie Jackson and Yann Kermorgant may return otherwise it should be an unchanged line up from the side that drew 0-0 with Blackpool Likely Team to face Blackburn Rovers Hamer Wilson - Morrison - Wood - Wiggins Pritchard - Cousins - Stephens Jackson Sordell - Church Substitutes Bench Alnwick - Evina - Dervite - Harriott - Gower - Stewart - Kermorgant A4L's Prediction: 1-1 (Church)
Cheers, A4L. I think you've got the team correct, and Jackson could be our key man. With Stephens playing so well in his new role, and Cousins presence in the middle we suddenly have a decent midfield, and hopefully Jackson's intelligent play will link up with the front two. I hope Kermorgant does not feature until he is 100% fit, and Solly's continued abscence is worrying me, especially since it's a knee injury.. I'll go for 1-1 (Jackson).
Nice one A4L I think Chris will be a little more defensive so am going ................Hamer Wilson - Morrison - Wood - Wiggins .............Cousins Pritchard - Jackson - Stephens ........Sordell - Church Substitutes Bench Alnwick - Evina - Dervite - Harriott - Hughes - Stewart - Kermorgant Score..... I think a bit of a surprise is in order...... 1-3 (Church, Jackson & Wood)
Brilliant thread Blackburn have confirmed that Scott Dann, Josh King and Jordan Rhodes are fit to play tomorrow (sigh), however, I'm personally still confident about getting something out of the game. The 2 draws will have boosted confidence and think a little break will have benefited the players. Church will be on a high after scoring for Wales, and fancy him to score in a 2-1 win. Wood for the other.
Good thread. Thanks. Agree with the team suggestions. We should get stuffed which means we probably won't. Would be surprised and delighted with a point.
I saw the team training this morning....if Kermit is on the bench I would be very very surprised! I would also be surprised if he played next week.
Great thread A4L, The only change to your team selection I would make is Gower for Pritchard. I am in the camp that believed despite his advancing years, Gower has a good football brain at this level and think he has done enough in the last two home games to justify another start ahead of Pritchard. I would be delighted to take a point from Ewood, so I will go for an optimistic 1-1 (Jackson)
Surprisingly optimistic about this one so we'll probably get spanked but I'm going 2-0, shut Rhodes out and 2 lucky goals for us
You lot are remarkably optimistic. I don't see Kermorgant featuring much, if at all, and we are lost without him. Playing with Sordell is liking playing with ten men. I would rather see Pigott, Harriott or Stewart instead, and I don't have a lot of confidence in any of those. He is that useless. Otherwise I agree with Addick4's team.
Excellent post. I'll cower with the rest of you and predict a 1-1 draw that I don't really expect (I'd have gone for a 2-0 loss but we do seem to be playing a bit less worse lately).
Believe it or not, it's a quote (I just could'nt be arsed to do quotation marks at whatever hour I wrote it. Love to see a 'less worse chant'.
Normally you would take a draw at Ewood if Jordan Rhodes is playing. Unlike last year though, the league table is starting to look very stretched, so a draw will probably leave us in the bottom 3. No doubt the usual Clive Dunn Appreciation Society members will be busy on here later ....
