This pi$$es me off. We were drawn out the hat before Newcastle so they should have to rearrange:-

Sunderland AFC advises that the forthcoming Capital One Cup fixture against Southampton is to be re-scheduled.
Strenuous representations were made to the Football League by Northumbria Police, relating to concerns around public safety in the wider region due to the game's close proximity to the Wear-Tyne derby and Newcastle United’s fixture being scheduled on the same evening.
The Football League, who oversee fixture scheduling for the competition, has therefore requested that Sunderland’s game is moved to the following week.
The fixture will now be played on Wednesday 6thNovember, kick-off 7.45pm.
Sunderland AFC’s commercial director, Gary Hutchinson, said: “We have agreed to move the game with great reluctance, as we know the impact this could have on supporters and appreciate and thank them for their understanding in this matter.”
The Football League’s chief operating officer, Andy Williamson, added: “It is never ideal for a match to be dated and then moved at relatively short notice.
"Nonetheless, we have listened to the representations made by the police on this matter and have agreed that it is in the wider public interest to re-arrange this match. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes for supporters.”
Supporters are advised that any tickets purchased will remain valid for the new date.

I don't understand what the problem is. The reason that Sunderland and Newcastle play alternate weeks go's back years when some supporters went to both grounds and if they both played on the same day it had an effect.
Nowadays I very much doubt that many people watch both teams.
If they are worried about supporters fighting in the Metro stations, I would expect a few City supporters here but the 3 from Southampton can come up on the team coach .
A typical over reaction from Northumbria police, who, in my opinion cause half of the problems at football matches ( horses especially )

I cant go now either. Why should we be the ones that always have to change days. Our game was out the hat before theres, so we should be the one that play on the Tues!

The Mags have traditionally, well in recent decades anyway, played their night games on Wednesday and us on Tuesday, which may have influenced the decision due to the derby being on Sunday..

    Well ****ing fantastic!

I booked my flights, this morning, from Saturday until Thursday so will now waste 4 days, after the derby, in the UK or pay to reschedule.

Why is their cup game not put back a week ?, more money for the police you see. if we get Man c or Chelsea away in the 5th round draw before that, that is a bummer to say the least and the players will have less interest then. And why the hell could we not have played the derby on a Saturday ? at 5.30 pm. And because of bonfire night we have to play on Wed instead of tues ! and what about Southampton supporters ?, god knows what it costs by train to come up here.

The guys questioning why Newcastle's game isn't get put back, do know that the Newcastle game is on Sky and Man City are in Champions League the night before you play Southampton. Got to say don't see the problem with both playing on the same night, remember in 1997 when Newcastle hosted Charlton and Sunderland were at home against Arsenal in the FA Cup.

    Northumbria Police are a joke.

In the late 90's I went to a Old Firm game at Ibrox about 50'000 at Ibrox - on the same day U2 were playing at Parkhead in front of 60'000 plus...............how comes Strathclyde police could cope with these events yet Northumbria Police force cannot cope with two matches which would probably have 50'000 in total at the two matches.................

Apparently the issue was 6 police horses rang in sick...........................
