http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/daniel-agger-ill-fight-liverpool-6191407 Daniel Agger has vowed to force his way back into the Liverpool FC side. The Danish defender has had to settle for a place on the bench in recent weeks following his recovery from a rib injury. However, Agger remains fully committed to the club and has shrugged off continued speculation of interest from Barcelona. Liverpool rejected a bid of around £15million from the Catalans back in August and boss Brendan Rodgers recognised the 28-year-oldâs loyalty by awarding him the vice-captaincy. âThe (Barcelona) move was up to the club,â Agger said. âThe club would not sell me. I do not know (if I will play at another club). âRight now I have two and a half years left on my contract, and I intend to fulfil my contract. Iâm glad to be at Liverpool.â Rodgersâ side sit second in the Premier League table after a flying start to the season and will be looking to continue their fine form when they return to action at Newcastle United on Saturday. Agger, who has clocked up 215 appearances for the Reds since his £6million switch from Brondby in 2006, insists heâs happy with the current competition for places because it proves Liverpool are well equipped for the challenges ahead. âIn January Iâll have been at Liverpool for eight years,â he said. âIf you count how many central defenders have gone through the system during that period youâll need to use more than one hand. Iâm standing there still. âFor me (staying at Anfield), itâs also about making the team as strong as possible because Iâm hungry to win something,â he said. âI believe winning things is possible. Iâm interested in being part of a squad of 25 strong players, and those who the club bought in during the summer clearly help raise our level. âWe have a great team, and if I can win something it will be great. Liverpool is a huge club.â Agger scored two penalties as Denmark beat Malta 6-0 last night â but the Danes missed out on a play-off berth as they finished with the weakest record of the nine runners-up. Meanwhile, Pepe Reina has distanced himself from reports suggesting he expects to seal a move to Barcelona next summer. The Liverpool keeper, on a season-long loan at Napoli, has already said he doesn't expect to return to Anfield.
Great to have competition for places Danny has been a great servant but as with the rest of the squad needs pressure from other players for his place in the team. Just a shame we haven't got European footy and more CoCup games to keep them match fit.
everyone likes agger...but he's not as good as sahko... just saying! its not a popularity contest and we've all seen brilliant LFc players dropped by many a legendary LFC manager. Agger will have to find his way either past toure or sahko in a back 4 IMO. If we play a 3 at the back simply to accomodate agger we are robbing ourselves of a player further forward. 3-5-2? not for me perosnally.
Agger is bettet than Skrtel and it's only a matter of time before Skrtel makes a mistake. Toure Sakho Agger is a better back 3 actually that's a damn fine back 3.
