Sadly not in his way back to the Valley to buy the club, or even to play buuuuuuuuuut........... he has just won the Danish version of Come Dancing according to the Spanish/Catalan press. I wonder when we will next be buying a player from Barça?
He always did have fancy footwork, Ken! Remember his debut goal like it was yesterday - free kick that took about four deflections on the way in - I think we blew it over the line. And that hat-trick against Chelsea, ye gods. Truly exciting player and what a reception he got when he dropped in a couple of seasons ago.
Imagine our equivalent.... "Chris Powell, the judges scores are in..... Ponders End Addick ........2 Jimmy the Addick.........10 VolauVent Addick..........zero Captain B...............can I give 11 ?"
Simonson is in the top five players I have seen in my fifty two years of watching Charlton. In no particular order. Simonson, Firmani, Went, Alan Campbell, Hales
Dick, what about Di canio, Jensen, Parker and Murphy who all performed at the highest level unlike some of your choices?
What I should have said in my post, is firstly I agree with Typical that Simonson was the best player to have played for Charlton as a former European player of the year. The other four were my favourite players I have seen through the years. Your choices have merit and as you say they played in the top division. But DiCanio and Murphy were not with us long enough. Jensen was an excellent player, we could do with him now. Some of my other Favourite players through the years were John Hewie, Charlie Wright, Bob Curtis, Mark Kinsella Colin Powell, Clive Mendonca and of course Akpo Sodje. Only joking on the last one.
A very generous 2, I must add. For me, our greatest ever players are - Kim Grant Paul Bacon Peter Garland John Bedstead (sic) Reuben Agboola
I had mixed feelings watching Simonsen. A great player ,yes, but it was all a bit unreal. The team weren't good enough for him, and I kept wondering what on earth he was doing here?
