We have no movement we don't offer an outlet for the defenders that play pass the parcel, we don't create an outlet. Every game I've seen we stand there like musical statues, which allows teams to regroup and get into position to defend against us, and is that down to SoD's orders. The defenders get two choices a back pass or hoof it forward to the smallest player up front. We need someone to tell players movement opens up teams creates space to exploit. We see Bryan looking like he's told to come inside because we know SoD don't like wingers. Or we see Bryan getting down and whacking it against the last defender to win a corner. Then we get the short corner which in my mind only allows the opposition to close you down more and play the offside trap. Is this an order by the management or if not someone ought to tell them to stop playing that way.
"and that is down to SoD's orders" Really I would have thought it was down to the players lack of movement? Its about midfield overload, these players don't have the skills or technology YET to apply it correctly. (just like Iraq cant enrich uranium!) but when they do. watch out someone.!!
Cliftonville, the reference to the national team was in response to the OP. If you genuinely had the fortunes to take over the board, and you would then run it the same way our current board is, then I am thankful you don't have that kind of money. People have been saying for weeks "we will be fine this season" but that certainly doesn't seem the case, confidence gets worse and worse when you don't win games, and you fall into a nasty cycle, and unrest soon starts. I saw that it was now coming when SOD blamed the players and labelled them a disgrace. Sorry but didn't half this board belittle the likes of Di Canio for outing his players in the media like that?
'Next time make a simple pass, just that' Clifton - 'Make a simple pass' - that's what Flint did. Back to the keeper who would have then launched it, Hughes was closing him down. Here's the crux, what you're advocating is fine on paper ie 'Options forward to feet = Very good. Option sideways to feet = good. Option backwards = Ok' - but not with our players who are totally incapable of playing that system. You are asking Flint to play a game he's not comfortable with. Like it or not that's the fact. His strength is in the air. You play to a player's strength not his weakness and Flint can practice for 100 years but he won't get any better on the floor. And Football is played on grass - not paper.
Get you, talking sense not belittling anyone, see you can be ok when you work at it, well done Victor
A basic error was made before the back pass. Wrong option taken. Its a team game. Should that mean City abandon the at times excellent football played over the previous eighty minutes? No it doesn't. Clearly Port Vale struggled to compete with City for a long period of the game. Summary the players are not totally incapable.
Extending the academy, concentrating on development are not bad things. They are progressive. It is hopefully a Community based club. It should operate in the black, or with easily serviced debts. That I think is now BCFC's aim. I hope it because that is healthy and responsible. The club could continue to operate 120%+ past its income. That is just idiocy.
I quite agree, but it is all about balance, that's what breeds success. The rate in which we were going, we would have imploded sooner or later, but you need smarter people on the board, football people, not the heir of a successful businessman in a totally different field. We are no different to dozens of clubs around the country, all striving for the same sustainable and steadily progressing future, it's not luck that achieves that, it's being smart, and making the best decisions. But this is all background stuff, and is relatively irrelevant when what gets fans through the gates and fills the stands is winning football matches. You can't sell a season ticket to the next kid who turns 18 under the "Promise" of a greatly run club behind the scenes, when what he is paying to watch is simply not good enough. No point in having the best plan for 10 - 15 years in the future, because as has already been said, football doesn't stand still, things change.
"football doesn't stand still, things change" But everything you advocate means standing still? Still no viable alternative. Still no viable options..??
ibodyslamrhinos. You were asked what your ideas were for a "sustainable" BCFC you could not answer. You had NO real realistic ideas. You are advocating standing still. City are attempting to do something different to dozens of clubs including the Gas or Argyle.
How on earth do you get that I am supposedly advocating we stand still from what I am saying??????????????????? The place you start with change, is on the pitch.... I don't see how anyone can argue with me that in this economical climate, an 18 year old is not going to fork out £300+ on a season ticket, because the club are trying to do things right in the background, whilst neglecting the main objective, which is to get the first team winning football games. No one is stupid enough to turn their nose up at building a brilliant youth set up, and everything else that is supposedly going on in the background. But you need to combine that with the correct employment of the right people in the right areas throughout the club. Wurzel, your question was stupid.... I could write a list as long as my arm for ideas on a sustainable future, anyone could, its not difficult. Ideas for a sustainable bcfc are one thing, we ALL have ideas, but its about putting them into place, which is a totally different thing. Had you said "how do we put all these perfect sustainable ideas into place?" i would have said I don't know, as I am not a football director, and neither are you. I completely agree with the things the club WANTS to do, but wanting and DOING is something entirely different, and still no one answers the real debate of DOES IT, OR DOES IT NOT START ON THE PITCH WITH THE FIRST TEAM TO BUILD FOR THE FUTURE? This is not "chicken and the egg" scenario, bums on seats come from good results, not draws and losses! Simple fact, that again, no one seems to be able to give a credible argument to that fact?
'Still no viable alternative. Still no viable options..??' Banksy - How many more folk on here are you going to ask? Let's hear your alternative and Wurzel - don't be afraid, join in. Your Starter for 10 - Tell us why SOD (no win in 18) is the right man to manage BCFC. We need a laugh in the sh*t we're in.
A list for Wurzel *A manager who knows how to win football games, not just keep possession of the ball, then blames everyone but himself, including fans, players and no money for the teams failings. * A young manager who is used to working within a budget, and has fresh ideas to bring to the table * Players who are keen to make a name for themselves and work hard for their wage, no prima donnas * Players that rise to the occasion everytime they step on the grass, whether it to train or under the Ashton Gate lights * Regular Youth input, players coming through the academy year in year out, whether they go on loan to get their first team football at a young age and then we use them * A great scouting network, not just in England, but throughout Europe, finding the best untapped talent for our division. * Coaches who know how to get the best out of players at all ages, and all levels of ability, in all positions of the pitch * A board who know the game of football, not just how to make a buck, footballing people, great example Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool. Not the owners son who has no knowledge of the game * Directors who can market the club, the marketing is non-existent at Bristol City FC * Directors, working with the council to construct a new stadium that can make us money for the future * Incentives for fans to walk through the gates, like a better match day experience, not just with the football on the pitch but everything else that makes going to a live sporting event an exciting experience. 4 months of my life every year is spent in California, and their sporting events are unreal! I could go on and on.... But I genuinely don't understand the point in this exercise you wanted me to carry out Wurzel, writing lists and brainstorming doesn't mean it comes true and is being implemented. We can all write lists, which if you read in our last conversation, I DON'T SEE THE POINT IN.
Redprintt .. I have gone into depth in another thread. I support the change at BCFC. No wins in ten, six draws. Results can be imposters, it will change. Coming back on a BS4 mini coach from Vale nobody was mentioning heads rolling, the view was that result was an imposter. Build from that, also enjoyed the day out, promise of better to come. ibodyslamrhinos .. Nothing wrong with the question for somebody as critical as yourself of everything, or close at BCFC. I responded to similar. There are a lack of names on your list. I doubt its that easy. Many of those changes have been enforced. I am afraid some would necessitate the removal of the owner, a buy out costing forty million plus is hardly likely. Football apart Guy Price and Kevin Smith are leaving. Incentives and marketing may improve.
Unfathomable that one. The two most successful FA's in Europe and their representatives teams plan over decades. I think the Spanish called it the fidelity strategy.
I'd rather be "critical of everything" (which is nonsense as I'm not), than follow blindly like a sheep into a footballing abyss. There is zero time for "things will get worse before we get better, so just be patient", Bristol Rovers are a true testament to that. They have lost more and more each year, and gained very little. They have lost their academy which was really coming along, their stadium, and yes, even their fans! Down 2000+ fans on average in 10 years for a club only averaging about 7k before that, is disastrous in my view. Again you say I don't answer questions, but where is your answer as to what will get bums on seats, winning games, or a building slowly in the background when it could be far too late??? Same goes for you Cliftonville.
That was in reference to BCFC, not our FA.... Which is entirely different. Our FA can plan for the next generation, I'd encourage that. BCFC have to concentrate on NOW just as much as 10 or 15 years later, a point that seems to escape you time and time again. Because if they don't 10 or 15 years later could be to late!
Building slowly, with care and being realistic will fill more seats than running an FC in the manner it was 2008 - 2012. Check the accounts and their summary, the business effectively was described as unviable. That business is the football club we support [??]. No viable business no club.
