http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...sted-Glen-Johnsons-early-recovery-injury.html Hopefully we won't have to experience s Sterling at right back again.
It's ok, I thought we had 2 centre backs that were better than Johnson at RB/RWB anyway, despite him playing for us Chelsea and being England's first choice RB for last 3 or 4 years
Sterling has been called up because Cleverley is out. Surely the means Raheem is the next superstar CM???
I did, Milk mentioned playing RB so I joined in the piss take in suggesting he could play CM as he's replacing TC
In answer to my own question, the team against C Palace was: Mignolet, Sterling, Toure, Skrtel, Sahko, Enrique, Henderson, Gerrard, Moses, Sturridge, Suarez. Now I'm assuming Lucas and Johnson will both come in if they're ready, surely we can't drop Henderson, we lose a good attacking threat if we drop Moses so could we perhaps revert back to a 4-3-3? The obvious change being Johnson in for Sterling. Newcastle's defence has been extremely poor this season, we need to play to our strengths and have as much attacking talent as we reasonably can. ----------Mignolet---------- Johnson-Toure-Sahko-Enrique -----------Lucas------------ -----Gerrard----Henderson--- -Suarez---------------Moses- -----------Sturridge--------- Too ambitious?
BR has said he's tried playing them from wide or one behind the other but he now wants LS & DS up top. He's also known to want three in the middle. Only three systems allow for that; three at back, a 4312 or 4132. What about when Coutinho returns? I think we should go 4312
I like the look of 4312, only real problem is the only real player who can provide width is Johnson, even then him and Enrique both opt to come inside and run with the ball. Could be very tricky against teams who like to park the bus.
Problem with 4312 is, you have no natural width up the field. I know we don't play with proper wingers at the moment, but at least having someone out there gives you that option and makes you slightly less predictable and easy to defend against. At the moment, the width is coming from the full backs which playing with 3 CB's doesn't leave you exposed if they both get caught up field. If you rely on your full backs to provide the width in your formation, then you can be caught out at the back a lot more. Think it's dangerous when you start playing around with formations trying to fit all your best players into the team... just because the best players are playing, doesn't make it your best team if they're playing a formation that doesn't work etc. Maybe we drop Coutinho when he's fit all the while it's working with the formation we have which allows Sturridge & Suarez upfront.
Every system has its downside. If BR wants two up top, three in the middle and Coutinho on the pitch, how else can we line-up?
That's why I make my point about sometimes you don't just play the best players because you can't fit them all into a team in a formation that suits others... Coutinho hasn't been in the best form this season (yes I know only a few games) so maybe give him a rest. Maybe he's feeling the pressure to be the big thing this year and a few games out will remind him and everyone else no need to heap so much pressure on him as we have others who can perform.
First 3 names in attack should be... Sturridge Suarez -----Coutinho----- The rest is built around that.
