http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24471034 I personally do not believe that the fact the PL is widely foreign results in the national team being bad, I think that as an Englishmen we as a nation put way to much emphasis on the national team, we are currently ranked about 19th in the world and I would say we are not far off being that based on quality. Also interesting to note in the article above that we as a club played 11 Englishmen during our last game the most out of any Championship club.
I saw that, felt quite impressed seeing Church and Wiggins are Welsh so even the subs are English for us. I am impressed and its good that we can be held up like a positive for the English game
The influx of Carlos Kickaballs is a thoroughly bad thing. To my mind, this club started heading towards the khazi when we began recruiting foreign mercenaries like Traore, Faye, Hasselbaink, Corey Gibbs etc. One of the many benefits of withdrawing from that corrupt cabal that is the EU will be taking control of our employment laws again. We can then pose a cap on Johnny Foreigner arriving here to fleece us. I would set the cap at one non EU born player per Club. As Gordon Brown once said, "English players for English clubs"
Quite frankly I detest most nationalities, I'm not that keen on northerners either. I would not object to having a born within twenty mile rule on players. If we can have a localised playing squad I would john the supporters trust as long as they made me king.
A way around that is making a Wage cap on english football, because then the foreigners like Ozil, Hasselbank (in his prime), Tevez, Aguero, won't be playing in england as Spain, Germany, France or Italy give them more money anyway, then we can concentrate on those footballers who aren't driven by money. And as much as someone like Rooney is driven by money he wouldn't move to Spain, imagine Rooney trying to learn another language
I wondered why Rooney didn't leave Man U in the summer, but when they asked him to put in a written transfer request, he let it go....
I'd say nineteenth probably reflects where the national team actually are. Sadly, one of the bits that get's missed whenever this debate comes up is how few English players are deemed good enough to play abroad. Bale, Beckham, and Rooney if he could have a translator on the pitch, but our players are technically limited, and the top Rank foreign clubs know it.
Celtic won the European Cup in 1967 with the entire team born within a short radius of Glasgow. My ideal current Charlton team would be Yann, and ten Academy products.
A lot of footballers in this country are drawn from a very narrow gene pool, which is categorised in sociological terms as "chav". This gene pool is reinforced, but the hereditary intelligence sadly diluted even further, when these footballers go to nightclubs and meet their spray tan, hair extension Coleen lookalike brides. They then produce offspring called Kai or Chantelle Innit , and so the cycle continues.....
So we can cap the number of footballers who could be paying millions per year in tax to the treasury, yet we can't cap the amount of Roma gypsies selling the Big Issue.
this england debate with gary linker and stan collymore will have a affect on championship clubs, probably in a positive way. if they do set a quota on english players per club in the prem (which they are proposing) then the best english players in the championship will become worth their weight in gold. maybe villa will come back for dale stephens with 2m again then... sordell will prob still go for 50p
The same question went through my mind as well - the answer though, eludes me. Best bet I'd say is Ricardo Fuller, but I'm pretty sure he didn't score any of his goals for Jamaica while he was with us.
Probs goes further back and is like JJ (as in the finnish one) or Jensen.... but If i were to guess I'd take a punt at Dennis Rommedahl
According to Wiki, Leon Cort scored for Guyana against Trinidad & Tobado in November 2011 - at the time he was with us on loan, before he made the move permanent in January 2012
