    Brilliant result.
Brilliant display and goal by Townsend.
4-1................yet they'll still get criticised no doubt. <doh>

Flyer.................one of the clearest penalties I've ever seen!!

Job half done............Poland will be dangerous.

    Come on England!!

it wasnt, both Sturbridge and wellbeck spent the whole game diving, at least one of them went down under little contact at every fk or corner but only did it in the area.

I was in the pub watching the game. It was full of Chelsea fans asking who this Townsend bloke was? Everyone was raving about him.
To think that he would of signed for us if Aaron Lennon hadn't got injured. He even tweeted that he was coming back to us until that happened.

we should be finding these players when they are teenagers and bringing them through, just think walker and Townsend cost less than SWP.

It wasn't my pub of choice Bm, but in saying that any pub I drink in around these parts would be full of them I'm afraid. I even have their players living on my doorstep. There's no escaping them.

Watch it flyer in slo mo you can see the muscles on his leg ripple on the impact of the lunge from behind

He was pulled back plus contact

Plus frankly it was a pen because it was given

I watched France also and have to say if they get it together as a team they will be top four in the World Cup

We go up ... Then we keep Remy as all costs IMO

With his goal last night, Rooney has become the highest goal scorer in competitive matches in England's history! His first touch for his goal was sublime and he played well throughout. He should have got that effort from a tight angle on target, but he is nevertheless a World Class player imo. He just needs to perform more consistently like it with England.

It was clearly a penalty. As for France? Dream on Dave.

I can't believe that anyone would dispute that penalty.

We did play reasonably well but I still think 4-4-2 with two geriatrics in the middle is a disaster waiting to happen.

I agree re 4-4-2, although it was fine against a side that came to park the bus.
Lampard is starting to fade a little now, but I would still play Gerrard. Wilshire will start on Tues instead of Lampard imo. He may still go 4-4-2 although it will be more like 4-1-3-1-1.

I'd like to see this for Tues:

    ----------------------Hart---------------------
    Jones-----------Cahill------Jakielka-------Baines
    ---------------------Gerrard-------------------
    Townsend----------Wilshire------------Wellbeck
    ------------------Rooney----------------------
    --------------------Sturridge------------------

When all are fit I'd like to see this:

    -------------------------Hart-----------------------
    Johnson-----------Cahill-------Jagielka--------Baines
    -----------------Gerrard-----Carrick----------------
    Walcott----------------Wilshire-----------Townsend
    ---------------------Rooney-----------------------

Great result last night. Still very nervous for Tuesday, though.

I'd personally like to see Carrick come in for Lampard and let SG play a little further forward.

I'm absolutely desperate for England to win a tournament! I still take some heart from the fact that Greece won the Euros. Brazil will be impossible but, if we get there, we could still go out fighting rather than with a whimper like the last Euros.

The best thing about qualifying would be the opportunity to re-watch Mike Bassett England Manager.

Marching onwards to Brazil, we look good in espedrilles!

No disrespect but that's England's history, not Germany, Brazil, Spain etc. Its like saying a Leeds player that has just become their all-time highest goal scorer is World class.

This over-expectation of the England team and its players is a terrible hindrance to the team living up to its potential. The fans and media are to blame for scaring the players so sh*tless that they consistently freeze on the big stage.

Ireland are sh*t and always have been. England are mediocre and always have been (post '66 anyway).

England were better in 1970 than in 1966 but had a scum keeper in goal
