Big assumption about Rooney and Sturridge tonight, but let me suggest this-

    Sturridge and Wellbeck?

Why the hell not? And please, don't say they'd get in each others' way. More chance of Rooney doing that than Wellbeck.

Cos welbeck is a striker who doesn't score many goals.

Welbeck has done well playing for England, better than Rooney, Sturridge Welbeck sounds a much better strike force

I don't give a flying ****, as long as Sturridge doesn't get injured. Rooney and Welbeck can get non-career threatening, niggly, miss 8 games injuries <ok>

If we're going by who's done better playing for England then it should be Rooney and Welbeck all the way. Sturridge hasn't really impressed for England at all thus far.

Tho' given Roy's love of 433 and the squad he's picked, I reckon it's a fair bet all three of them will start with Rooney and Welbeck pulling wide and dropping deep.

  9. I'd rather see Rooney and Welbeck play. Not because they are better, deserve it or the in-form two but because I don't want The Studge getting injured.

Agreed...although from The Studge's point of view if he plays and plays well it will boost his confidence even further <ok>

I'm a big fan of Wellbeck, and Sturridge is the form forward in the country. Rooney has been ****ing appalling for England in big games and tournaments for over three years. Keep him on the bench as an impact sub. Not being anti-United Swarbs, but his latest witterings about how he sulked under SAF because he was played out of position (poor dear, on £250k a week) just confirms to me that his head is just wrong. And, that his form for England is indifferent anyway.

Fair point about Rooney's form, but at least he has scored important goals for England in the past three years (Ukraine in 2012 as a key one), whereas Sturridge has managed one against San Marino.

Also not sure the attitude issue really favours Sturridge over Rooney, given that Sturridge has already sulked his way out of two top clubs because they wouldn't play him up front. And if Sturridge's attitude is that bad now, just think how bad it could get if he had the experience, honours and recognition Rooney has.

I dont think Welbeck is that good. I'd rather play Peter Crouch.

    Sturridge with Barkley behind.

I just looked at our wide option in the squad. Its Milner and no one else.

Our squad is rubbish. But the options Hodgson had to choose from are not rubbish.

The same applies to the defense.

  16. Sure, the Studge has said he wants to play up front (just like Rooney recently has) but that's not why he "sulked his way out of two clubs", it was because he wasn't being played.

RE: Rooney. He is a big name in world football and he's recognised (whether we agree or not) as england's main player. I think the opposition would get a boost if they saw Rooney on the bench.

  17. I'm not a big Welbeck fan (and nor are a few of my Man Utd supporting mates) but he has a good work ethic and takes up good positions, he appears to have added goals to his game this season too.

I think Rooney probably should play, but in AM.

Roy Hodgson needs to show he can adapt to modern football evolution. So do the FA.

When we beat Brazil he set up the team brilliantly. Ever since he has gone back to the 1970's.

442 and 4411 is dying Roy!

I suppose thats what subs are for. Put two on; if one doesnt pull thier weight then haul them off. My gut doesn't rate Welbeck but he scores for England so can't argue with a striker scoring.........

And yes I'd rather Sturridge didn't play and remained injury free but England are in my bet so......
