I am honestly in two minds on this. first utd have made a monumental blunder in appointing moyes. the back room team? well utd's was phelan so i don't think they've killed the golden goose or anything. however second.. I am confident that sooner or later moyes will be sacked and after that they'll spend like city to get back. that has risks and could take time but any side that can pay 200k per week will not be far off the top will they? all i can say is that we are at the point that utd would be looking at the title every 3/4 years and having 2/3 rivals for it but not being the dominant force or the one always rising to the top. they are as likely to be crap as anyone else. tobes is right decline to utd (right now) is measured by a different standard. i think decline may mean only 4th not deline meaning 7th or bottom half or something. I think i'd be more along the lines of what tobes said... but only once moyes gets the push. I think they've a lot of rebuilding to do.. ferguson took 3 seasons there when mourinho came on to deliver. can moyes do that?? vidic, ferdinand, evra, carrick even RVP tese are all 30/30+ reminds me of LFC in 1991. souncess came in and found a heap of aging stars, f'd it up... the difference is the glaziers have no problem trhowing money at it depsite what the mancs say about them. throwing borrowed money at it is no issue to them.
Far too early to be judging any team really, but Fergie retiring was always going to be a watershed moment.Looking at the league table their six points off the top with 31 games left, but it does feel like change is in the air.An ageing back line needs strengthening,as does the midfield.Where they will finish this season is one of the reasons the Prem is such a fascinating league this time around. Finishing outside the top four would,of course,be a disaster for Man.Utd.But with other's coming up on the rails,it might just happen.
I think the majority of us Utd fans were wary of what may arise once SAF retired. I would guess that all of us hoped for as smooth a ride as possible and as it`s still early days only time will tell. Only yourselves and Arsenal have seemed to be more consistent than other big clubs, this could be down to the clubs who finished top 3 all having new managers. I know it has been a while since Pool fans have been able to have a bit of a laugh at Utd`s expense, be careful your team has looked far from unbeatable, who knows what may happen if other teams start to click.
Well equally other teams should be careful when we start to click. We are grossly under rated by opposition fans. Not title challengers, but defo in the mix for top 4. And we haven't even started playing well yet, nor had our three best players on the pitch together.
I've voted no, mainly due to me thinking Utd have been in decline before only to prove me wrong. Maybe if I say they're not in decline they'll prove me wrong again! Fingers crossed.
It would hardly be a disaster, that's way over exaggerating. It might make our glorious owners realise that employing a new boss and then allowing him one new player and asking him to get on with it doesn't actually work. I don't feel champions league is by any means the be all end all, this is an inevitable transition period. I would hope if we do not make top four that, rather than blame Moyes sack him and get the next victim in, they would back him and give him money to rebuild. We're not in decline though, no. That's just in your dreams.
Welcome to the site my friend, hope you're going to stick around? I agree with you, many have thought they were in decline before only to prove everyone wrong. Big difference this time is the man who dragged them through it each time as gone, Fergie!
Oh you cant backtrack now, to early to say I won but im looking good I do joking aside think they'll still be strong but not as they were obv
I take that back, a bit. If in decline means we no longer win the league three years on the bounce on a regular basis then yeah, we're in decline, as I can't see that happening any more. There are now too many contenders for that to happen rather than the usual one genuine challenger in any given year, sometimes none. We'll still be up there though.
No you said "Big difference this time is the man who dragged them through it each time as gone, Fergie!" I think when I said this you said their squad will pull them through (and they could well do yet) but the squad is underwhelming for me given they're champions
That just means there is a question mark over David Moyes, nothing more and nothing less They obviously have the players that can get the job done so long as they team spirit and tactics are right, that depends on the manager getting things right.
I agree with you Ive said all along Moyes isnt good enough for this big job. Look no further than Everton players comments now! They had the players, they were all scared of Ferguson and fear is the best motivator, ever. I dont think that exists now (but still have quality obv)
Good question. If it's the latter it will take more than this season, that much is certain. I am actually more bothered that history will repeat itself if he's sacked though and we chop and change and it takes ages to get back on track. If he were to be sacked there are two suitable candidates, both if whom should have been considered before Moyes. Guardiola I suspect isn't going anywhere which leaves Klopp. Other than that Moyes was best available candidate as there's **** all else out there good enough.
This time last season it would be unthinkable for Man.utd to finish outside of the top four. To miss out on Champions league revenue's would certainly make the Glazer's think twice re. the reinvestment the club looks like it needs. Still early days, interesting times.
