Cliftonville, I certainly dont need to defend this forum or shiny's right to have a poll. And judging by your comments you do not feel I have a right to an opinion or it is a valid one because I dont get to many games any more. There may be other forums but I dont have time to surf them all, I am more than happy with this one. I think the poll results so far are quite interesting because there can be a lot of negative comment on here which is the opposite of my feelings which are that the club is in transition and a financial situation which means the course we are taking is the only option. The poll is showing despite the volume of negative comments on here the majority of users are still supportive of SOD. As for your observation that age, experience and demographics will affect how members vote, you have enlightened me. (Shiny we cant have a poll on here because it wont reflect the opinion of people without internet access). There are many different views on here and all are welcome, including yours. There are many opinions expressed that I dont agree with. Possibly because of my age and demographic. But thats the point. Its a forum for everybody. Pretty pointless if we all agreed with one another.
http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/157962-many-joined-the-sod-out-bandwagon-tonight-poll/ This poll very much reflects the opinion that is shown on OTIB except they had a 3rd option on their poll for don't knows, I must admit on this one I'm really a fence sitter but have come down on the SOD IN option for the sake of sanity. There are a lot of people with doubts about SOD across all of the forums..
I refer to points raised by BCFC themselves, and Steve Lansdown years ago. The "Interneteers " were referred to. People around BCFC have also stated how damaging the internet can be. I agree again with that view. The club is in transition and a financial situation [unviable according to a annual account summary]. That minor detail is overlooked time and time again by those wanting wins/success yesterday and offering no rational alternative. Its a bit silly.
I agree with your comment re people wanting immediate results without appreciating the financial situation we are in, those are some of the comments I was referring to which frustrate me. However I respect their right to have and voice them. If the club think the internet can be damaging well I have news for them. I dont see it going out of fashion. The players and club should deal with it, as difficult as it might be. We have all shouted "advice" from the stands, dont see how on here is much different.
'and offering no rational alternative' My rational alternative is for the Board to sack him. Quick. Or are you saying to keep SOD is the ONLY rational alternative. Don't hide behind a smokescreen saying 'who do I want' - that's the Board's job. However useless they are.
Agreed, and I ask again, where's all the money from Adomah and Davies gone, because it's not been invested in the squad
Good to see that 80% + people on here have voted for SoD to stay - I think we all know that he has inherited a tough job. Look, we are where we are. The Board have without question "c*cked it up" in the last few years with some disasterous decisions/appointments/player recruitments. At least now they are doing something about it which makes me optimistic for the future. I think this board has a fairly balanced view - I respect the opinions of those who want SoD out (but in my opinion that achieves nothing) - we all want a resurgent Bristol City, but have different ideas of how to get there, and that's fine. BUT - on match days when we are at the ground, please please stay behind the team
I will always support my team and club until I die But I wont support managers and owners who are failing us. The current situation and what has been allowed to fester over the last few years is just an insult to us all.
'The Board have without question "c*cked it up" in the last few years with some disasterous decisions/appointments/player recruitments' Completely Agree. 'At least now they are doing something about it which makes me optimistic for the future' Completely Disagree. If we're not rid of SOD soon then we'll hear of 'dressing room unrest'. It's bound to happen. Mark my words.
Sorry I've not posted in a couple of months - very busy over here with having to do a lot of stuff in our new house plus still having to job hunt to get my first job over here. I have been following events from afar with disappointment, week in and week out. I've voted SOD-IN for the poll. I'm against yet another change so soon, and I appreciate the large turnover in playing staff, we're in transition etc etc. A manager has to be given time. Having said that, I am, like everyone else, very, VERY concerned about where we are in the league, where we are going, and where the first win will come from. The team seems very inconsistent - I read (being in Chicago of course I'm not seeing whole matches like most of you) that the team are often playing well and being unlucky in not scoring from multiple chances. But, like with the Wycombe game, they are more often toothless, unable to defend and unable to build attacks. I keep reading SOD and others saying that it's still "early days", it's only been 10 league games, it takes time to gel a new team to play together. The big thing that's been in my mind is... City and SOD have had 21 games so far this season. 10 in League 1, 5 in the Cups, and 6 pre-season. Of course you can't equate results from pre-season with results from proper, competitive matches, but notheless, SOD had 6 non-competitive matches to start getting his tactics and way of playing into the team before the season proper even started. Sure, some players left/came in after pre-season plus there have been injuries, but most have been in from the start. I'm honestly astonished that after 21 league, cup and pre-season matches, SOD still doesn't seem to know his most effective team or tactics. Although there have been changes, there has been enough time for an experienced manager to know his squads strengths and weaknesses and get across his tactics. And this excuse about it being a younger team in transition? The squad has more than enough experience in it to do better than this. It's not a team full of 17-18 year olds fresh from the youth squad with barely any league experience between them. There's enough in this squad to be winning matches at this level. As I said before the campaign started in earnest, I do NOT expect an immediate return to the Championship and I'd expect (and be content with) a mid-table finish. I knew it would be a tough transition. But I expected to be seeing better results by now with 15 league and cup games already played. How long does a teams transition last before you start saying that the manager just isn't making it happen? SOD presided over 20 games in 12-13, nearly half a season, and couldn't save us from relegation. He cannot be allowed to preside over another drop, despite all the cries of what he inherited, financial constraints, team in transition, blah blah blah. Sooner or later, he HAS to show that he can motivate a team and use winnable tactics, otherwise we'll be in the bottom tier next year. I cannot accept a transition of a whole season, that's just not realistic given a manager of SODs "pedigree" at this level. So for now, my vote is to keep SOD, he has to be allowed time to get things right. But if we're still struggling in or just above the relegation zone in 10 matches i.e by Christmas, I'd say that he can't make it work. By then it would have been 31 matches played this season (20 league plus 5 cup and 6 pre-season) - in anyone's mind that has to be more than enough time to get things moving in the right direction. Oh, one last thing. I totally agree that the Board are far from blameless, having made a series of bad decisions over recent years, and currently afraid to even be visible so it seems. Plus, the highly paid players have to perform and earn their wages. Bottom line is what happens on the pitch, and its SOD's responsibility to coach the team to win matches.
I voted for out because I simply cannot see where or when another league win is going to happen. I do not offer an alternative but we cannot continue indefinitely in this way just throwing points away game after game. I detest the man but get Warnock in on short term contract to dig us out of the quicksand before it is too late to escape a second consecutive relegation. If a second one does happen, I really do fear another the year after. We are in freefall and we need to stop the rot NOW.
Everyone else is not very concerned about the team. That is simply untrue. There have been matches were fans have been mystified how they conceived not to win, that is different to being awful and losing. Injuries and lack of form have led to changes. The margins between winning and drawing were poor finishing and errors. The tactics and shape of the team are consistent. Its been along time [years?] since I have seen a City team starve the opposition of the ball like City did at Vale. In the last two league matches City were by far the better team. Keep doing that and they will be moving in the right direction.
You really are a numpty ain't you? When he was fired at Donny he ended up as Steve Cotterill's coach at Forest after months without a job. Only to then go to Crawley for a few weeks till Forest came back in for him. Which at the time considering the managers they was touting it was a shock to the football world they went for him. So in that time where was these 90% of clubs who wanted him? There was a good amount of managers sacked around then but he didn't get the job's. And you're also blaming the players, the board anyone but SoD. But SoD choose most of these players, the board might be holding the purse strings but so what good managers will work with who they have especially if they choose the players. Apart from Reid and Bryan who was youth players last season who hardly played. Only Baldock is a regular from Del's team. So basically over 90% of the team is SoD. I don't want him out YET, I'm enjoying that we are at least trying to play decent football, but if it fails it's down to him no one else he knew excatly what he took on, he agreed to it, he said he can work with it.
Will we be having these polls on a regular basis now? I haven't voted in this one and wont be voting in any others.. Groundhog day all over again.
No I've said why I put it up, After the game I had loads and I mean loads of people on my twitter calling for SOD's head and hardly any defending him. I just wanted to know what the general thought on here was about our manager and to see if the majority wanted him gone. Don't see why you wont vote, Doesn't mean anything....
Shiny we did this with Mcinnes, his vote was fairly healthy then too, but he was gone within a week.. I just don't think this helps from any perspective.
Lets see where he ends up after leaving us,i think you and many of us will be suprised. Personally hope he turns it around, this reminds me of ADs early days, then remember where he took us.
