He was great for us so should be pointed out he's hung his boots up ----- http://metro.co.uk/2013/10/10/forme...and-star-danny-murphy-calls-it-a-day-4141732/ Former Liverpool, Tottenham, Fulham and England midfielder Danny Murphy has announced his retirement. He has decided to officially call time on 20 years as a professional, having already decided to hang up his boots. The 36-year-old, who was born in Chester, was part of Liverpool’s treble-winning squad in the 2000/2001 season when they claimed the FA Cup, League Cup and Uefa Cup. He started a sterling career with Crewe Alexandra and also played for Charlton and Blackburn, where he recently had his contract terminated. Murphy, who played nine times for England, told the Liverpool club website: ‘There have been some press reports about whether I’m still playing or available but I decided a little while ago I would retire, I just didn’t make it official. ‘So now I’m officially retiring because I’m sick of having conversations about it and almost stringing people along. I decided three or four weeks ago I was done. ‘This is me, 20 years, I’m done. I’ve had a wonderful career and can look back on it with fondness.’ ------------- Your fondest memories? Goals V Utd? i loved danny, he was a good lad and a decent player. i remember that 3rd goal vividly, i shouted "just ****ing hit it" and he obviously listened. Good times.
Danny was a good player, took his time establishing himself mind but very underrated imo I still get a lot of joy from us selling Torres to the chavs and him being utter ****e ever since. . 50m ta very much.
I loved Danny always scoring against Man Utd but I wasn't sad to see him leave Liverpool as I never thought he was good enough for us. However, he seemed to become much calmer on the ball whilst playing in a deeper role at other clubs. Would have been a good squad player to keep for that role but would he have progressed in the same way if he had stayed? He used to frustrate me too because he side footed everything!
i always thought he would have been a great player with an extra yard of pace... as it was he was still good!

The 36-year-old made 249 appearances for the Reds across seven years in the first team at Anfield, winning two League Cups, one FA Cup and a UEFA Cup. Murphy is arguably best remembered among the club's supporters for his three separate winning goals against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Earlier this year, the Englishman was voted into 53rd place by fans in the 100 Players Who Shook the Kop countdown for 2013. The versatile midfielder also represented Crewe Alexandra, Charlton Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham and Blackburn Rovers during his career, in addition to winning nine caps for England. http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/146755-danny-murphy-retires-from-football
He was one of those players who came through our ranks when our youth system was ****... I always kept an eye out for him even when he left us (I was gutted when he left us... I was also gutted when Mark Kennedy left us too)
He came through Crewe's youth system but ours wasn't so bad back then....Fowler and Macca etc pre Murphy followed by Owen and Stevie G. Wasn't Kennedy the most expensive teenager ever (at the time)? FFS
he was the most expensive. unbelievable, he was **** the first time i saw him and **** the last time and never improved in the middle, then happily ****ed off never to be heard of again.
this is it exactly, nive lad, a tirer but only decent. what struck me under houllier is any time the big match rolled round he looked like he lost the game ebfore it started. Rafa booted him for new players but he was always a red and as it should be once he left us his career took on a "well its post lfc and i'll make the best of it" type thing
How the hell is he 36? He's really only 26 right? That 20 year career he talked about started when he was 6. / for some reason thought he was younger the Gerrard.
