It depends what you mean by decline. I doubt they'll dominate the way they have under Fergie, but I'd be a bit surprised to see them slip below about 6th. Still, when you have a history of winning, that's still a decline in relative terms. As we know only too well.
Surely there is only one way to check? De Gea < Mignolet Ferdinand < Toure Evra < Enrique Rafael > Johnson Vidic = Sahko Fellaini < Gerrard Carrick > Lucas Kagawa > Henderson Nani < Coutinho Van Persie > Sturridge Rooney < Suarez Liverpool: 6 Draw: 1 United: 4 Conclusion: Definite decline.
We can claim that one then. Further evidence of Man Utd's decline. Or are we on the brink of greatness?
We're not on the brink of greatness... getting better but can't say anywhere near greatness yet... We've only one game where we weren't holding our pants up to prevent our bum being exposed for the entire second half. That was again a relegation certainty. A season of 1-0 wins would win us the title... but law of averages say we're ****ed if we don't improve our 2nd half performances. Utd are falling but not dying. There's a very real chance they won't get top 4... I doubt they'll remain as Midtable United into next season though. They've been trending down for a few years now... last several seasons all the top teams have cocked up though.
Of course they're in decline. It's just how you want to quantify it, as their version of what constitutes a decline, is different to the rest of the league. Ferguson's departure was always going to result in them going backwards, as despite what you may think of the man, he was a ****ing genius & kept them at a sustained level of incredible achievement for a quarter of a century ffs. How far will they fall? Back into the pack is my opinion, they've lost the element that made them fearsome, they're now just another quality side. Whether they go on to win more titles etc, will depend on the same criteria as the rest now, they'll live & die by their signings & their managers decision making.
No he didn't. They achieved much more in the last twenty years than he did in the first seven #pedantic
