Sunderland winger Emanuele Giaccherini says that he would have stayed at Juventus if it was up to manager Antonio Conte.

The Italian, who joined the Black Cats in July, has told an Italian radio station of his admiration for his former club and that it was not Conte's decision to sell him.

"I've lived two unforgettable years in Turin and if the decision was up to the coach, I'd have remained at Juventus," he told Radio Mana Sport.

"The club evaluated all the offers that arrived and accepted Sunderland's one. They preferred to let me leave."

Giaccherini, however, has been quick to praise the welcome he has received from Sunderland fans since his arrival whilst discussing the difference in the Premier League and Serie A's style of play.

He said: "In the Premier League, the football is less technical but much more intense and aggressive.

"Stadiums are always full and the supporters have been absolutely fantastic."

Having already qualified for the 2014 World Cup, Giaccherini is currently on international duty for Italy's final two qualifying games against Denmark and Armenia.

He'll be away quick time if things don't improve.
