The R’s chairman, like the fans, was devastated by the club’s relegation last season but he vowed to work hard to right the wrongs and help Harry Redknapp build a squad capable of mounting a promotion challenge this term. The early signs are good, with QPR sitting joint top of the Sky Bet Championship after ten games while achieving a club-record eight consecutive clean sheets. But he still remembers the unwavering support of the fans as the club slipped out of the top flight last season. “Every chairman will say this, but I think the QPR fans are a fairly remarkable lot,” he said. “They were still singing my name when we were getting relegated. It was embarrassing for me! They have been a resilient lot, they have been behind the club and we have had the best ever season ticket sales AFTER being relegated. “They have been amazing and I owe it to them to fix this. I am thrilled for them that they have something to sing about. They are a credit to football.” Fernandes was quick to shoulder the responsibility for the club’s relegation, but he says he is a better chairman for the experience. “Boy, I’ve learned and if we come back we’ll do it differently,” he said. “I put everything down to a learning experience and we move forward. I certainly don’t blame anyone, the buck stops with me. Full stop. “Life is about learning. I’m not a bitter person. I use these negative experiences to get better and be smarter, and I think in a very short time we’ve turned around QPR when no-one believed we could. “We’ve cleared out a hell of a lot of players and we’ve brought in the right sort. We’ve got a bit more work to do but you can see it’s quite a dramatic change.” After a lot of transfer activity in the summer – 20 players left (including loans) while ten came in – Fernandes is anticipating a far quieter winter window. “We have done the majority of what we needed to do,” he added. “We may need to move on some players and use some of that budget to bring in some young faces. “But I really want a settled squad. There has been too much chopping and changing at QPR. There won’t be a lot of business.” http://www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/091013-fernandes-you-lot-are-remarkable-1106344.aspx
"Hopefully, we are building something better now,â he said, speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast. âFor me, winning is everything. It was a new experience for me [last season]. I never believed it until towards the end but, yeah, some of them didn't put their full heart into it and it showed. âLife is about learning. I use these negative experiences to get better and be smarter. âIn a very short time we have turned around QPR when no one believed we could. âWeâve cleared out a hell of a lot of players, we have brought in the right sort, and we have got a bit more work to do, but you can see it is quite a dramatic change. If we come back [to the Premier League], we will do it differently.â Listen here: http://talksport.com/football/exclusive-we-are-building-something-better-qpr-now-says-fernandes-13100963349
TF - top bloke, we are equally fortunate to have such a loyal and dedicated Chairman. Wonder how many would disagree and would rather have Palladini back.
Spot on 100% In fact Lee Clark has stated if Palladini takes over as Birmingham - he fears the sack - I think he is right !!!!!!!!!!! We are so lucky to have TF - 100% gold.............
Its seems he is the most media friendly chairman out there. Gives time to acknowledge the fans and shouldering the blame of relegation
Unlike some. But then again - is it fair to blame the man who was in charge for 25 games or is he right and it's everyone else's fault?
