Gus Poyet wants to make it a family affair at the Stadium of Light by making son Diego his first signing as Sunderland manager. Poyet was confirmed as the new Black Cats boss on Tuesday â signing a two-year deal to replace Paolo Di Canio. The former Brighton boss inherits a squad that is bottom of the Premier League and short on confidence, but he will have £30million to spend in January to turn it around. And Poyet is already plotting who he wants to buy â with his son Diego Poyet a top target. The youngster is a midfielder at Championship side Charlton, where he is regarded as a star for the future. Arsenal and Manchester United have previously tried to sign him, but Poyet junior now looks set to link up with his father in the north East. According to reports, Sunderland will make a £2million bid to lure him away from Charlton, with the opportunity to work with his dad likely to prove too tough to turn down. Diego, who has been compared to Cesc Fabregas, is an England Under-18 regular and has already vowed to snub approaches from Uruguay to continue his Three Lions career.
No problem with bringing young talented players in, but how many of them are going to have a decent run in the first team to establish themselves? The young'uns just don't get enough game time at the top level and its even harder for us to include them now as we are deep in the doodoo.
Not for me. Bringing family members in could upset, what I believe, an already fragile dressing room spirit. Imo we need a forward and an experienced defender in January to maintain our EPL status. Maybe when Gus has did the business of keeping us up then possibly look at purchasing next season.
No argument there mate. They would be my priorities. A couple of other points. The bloke we`re talking about is a babby so would be in the development squad. As a family member it can cut both ways. It can be seen as favouritism or, the other side of the coin, he has to be so much better so favouritism cannot be construed. Players will be leaving (hopefully as expiring contracts are not renewed) so will need to be replaced. January, probably buy experienced striker and full back. Dossena isn`t far away I know but we haven`t seen him yet and have to reserve judgement. KB had Ba on the bench and Karlsson is drawing attention while at the same time the ManU kid did us a lot of damage. More use of Ba, Borini, Mavrias, Karlsson. On the bench, hoy them in 20-25mins. Get them out there and cause a bit of havoc. Not a recommendation here just a line of thought thrown into the mix.
As reported in the Metro by a twat who's got to have the most stupid haircut on earth. Probably more unreliable than the Daily Mail.
His son, Diego (born 8 May 1995),[31] plays for the academy of Charlton Athletic and has played for the England national under-16 football team.[32] He is also eligible to play for Spain by birth, and for Uruguay through his father's nationality.
Very few fella compared to the amount we'll be producing. Most will go out on loan and then sold. Obviously the ones which are good enough to cut it we'll be keeping for ourselves.
and a creative attacking midfielder to replace Sess. Giacc was bought in as competition to Sess, then we sold Sess and are now left with 1 player who can play that role again.
It'll be interesting to see how much money Short gives Poyet to bring to some new faeces into the dressing room....
