meh, I think thats just the press. since the takeover we have been linked with everyone under the sun. it's crap as it pushes prices up but thats the great briitish press for you.

Last January we were linked with over 50 players, We signed 3. Suarez (who we were interested in since day 1 to partner Torres), Carroll (Who we planned to buy in the summer but were forced to buy in January after Torres spat his dummy out) and Conor Thomas (a youngster from Coventry)

Most of the players i have seen Liverpool linked with are very good indeed and Suarez and carroll look to be a good combination, but they do seem to be paying way over the odds for one or two players, unlike newcastle of course who won't even negotiate a deal with the two players who have carried them kicking and screaming into the Premier league!!!!!

Its madness henderson hasnt done anything to show hes a future england player to be honest. Yes liverpool may be investing in youth but 20 mil is a huuge gamble and even if it pays off it will take years to do so. Its signings like this which could ruin LFC! They havnt go an unlimited buget like city, if kenny doersnt make the champs league this year that wont sit well with the owners, signings like henderson wont be helping them push for 4th place.

I agree to a certain extent but when you think about what Man Utd paid for Anderson (who's goal/game stats are worse then Henderson's for 10/11 and he was in a chapionship winning side) and Carrick then it makes sense in a weird way as Man Utd are the current benchmark for success.

If we can back up these signing with a few decent bits of business on the side then it will take the sting out of those price tags but for far too long Liverpool have had to make do (N'Gog, Dossena, Kyrigiakos, Poulson, Koncheskey) so it feels good to target a player and sign him

sounds familiar we are also buying young blah blah blah but the difference being if we said the barca plan we'd be laughed at and called deluded thankfully the fat one has lowered his sights and choose arsenal (as they have won **** all for ages as well)

Also, (sorry to flood this post) Man City do not have unlimited funds. they have aspirations for playing in the champions league so they have to start spending within their means meaning their owner can't fund their signings with his silly "interest free loans" that he keeps pouring in to the clubs coffers. Liverpool make an operating profit so they can afford to spend, Man City soon wont have that luxury

hate fat mike but he has sorted the mess that was our finances out and we're in pretty good shape compared to others in that department all be it at the cost of signings but that means we have to rely on the academy and reserves and personally think our youth set up is the best I've ever known since supporting them.

I agree that the youth set up is in a far better state now then in the past decade.

If a few from the current squad can make that step up and we have a conveyor belt of potential talent in the long run then it bodes very well for the future.

If I look at Liverpools squad I cant see how Henderson is actually going to get a game. Id take Gerrard and Meireles over Henderson any day of the week.

But I do understand what your trying to do (Bozz) and fully expect your team to come top 6 next season.... but theres been some serious spending at Liverpool over the years.... and no fruits to bear!

Price aside, I do think Phil Jones could be one to watch in the future, and it seems a lot of clubs are neglecting their CB position with so much talk about wingers and strikers.

But I agree with everyone else, Henderson has NOT impressed me this season. I appreciate the English focus they're going for, but if that's who they think is the best (available) young English midfielder, then they should be more patient.

Understand the logic of buying English with the new rules, BUT Id rather spend my money on Young than Henderson. Yes you can point to his age but Young will still have value at the end of a 4-5 year deal plus you're getting real quality now. The price for Henderson is just silly imo

It may seem a large amount. But, realistically what can you get for under 20mil in today's market? A load of average players (and we have enough of those already).

The guys at Liverpool are far from stupid and surely buying some of the best young English prospects can only be good thing. Time will tell i guess, but you dont see me complaining about spending big money on the future of the club.

How many players have been sold for >20 million? Genuine question. But my point being how many players does that leave that would qualify as "above average"?

I think the point a lot of (Newcastle) fans are making is that if you're going to buy unproven potential, there are always more affordable (who're as likely to pan out) players out there to be had than Henderson for 20m

But fair on ya, we here'd be as excited to see some serious cash being spent too. And Liverpool supporters can feel more comfortable with it because (even if) Fenway Sports went balls up one day, there'd always be another super-rich person willing to step up to save Liverpool.

It's a good idea and philosophy to have, but IMO Henderson wont ever reach Ashley Young's level and he's available for less than 20mil. You never know though.

i just think liverpool could get a much better player for there 20 million, modric is in the same price range and he is 10 times the player henderson is. it just seems incredibly risky to spend 20m on a unproven player to some extend whose likely to not even be starting every game. the board obviously back dalglish but hes spent big since hes been there yes we know he got 50m for torres but hes also bought henderson 20m carrol 35m and suarez 15ish m. suarez was a great deal but hes paying well over to odds for carrol and henderson.

if daglish wants succes he has to buy for the present aswell not just the future there is a reason liverpool arnt top four material and its because their first team isnt good enough, henderson and carrol arnt players who will be pushing them towards the CL not for a few years at least. daglish should focus on the present aswell instead of paying over the odds for what may be the future, well thats my opinion i dont really care what he does to be honest good luck to the crazy bastard
