I said if before but Pulis was the obvious choice to steady a ship which is clearly sailing in stormy waters.

Poyet is an unknown quantity at the top level, it really is one massive gamble and one which I expect to fail.

This appointment really is great news for us.

That really is a remarkable and chilling statistic!

It's wrong, of course, but still, just imagine if it were true.

(At Christmas 2010, Blackpool were tenth on 22pts, just 6pts above the relegation zone. Chelsea, in 4th, were 9 points above Blackpool.)

To be fair it's a great appointment for Gus too as he cant lose. He either keeps them up and is a miracle worker or he takes them down and its PDC's fault. The only way he could come out of it looking bad is if you get another players revolt with them saying he's even worst than PDC. It's a brilliant position to be in for his first Prem job.

I would have thought Pullis was the ticket (although it lacks ambition), but Poyet is a real gamble IMO. Before we start any pissing contests with anybody we need to think on that our defence is solid, our midfield decent, but wafer thin and our final third a concern. Not the time to be languishing in other's ill fortune.

I agree with this, they need an experienced older manager who can improve the players that they have or has a lot of tactical nous, Poyet has a better chance than Di Canio being only half a lunatic but is still not the sort of manager they need.

What - at 8.30am? I work in news and the best breakfast news bar none is the Today programme on Radio 4. The same applies to evening news and PM. Simple as.

I seriously doubt the Today programme has appeared on Patty's radar. He probably thinks Mishal Husain plays cricket for Essex...

Agree with this - the reality is that although we currently stand 8th we are in a season long relegation battle and I still say that I will be over the moon if we finish the season 17th

I think even Patty knows he retired years ago and now commentates on Sky's cricket coverage.

Looks like a young Monty Burns if you ask me.

Why did it take so long for Poyet to decide to take the job?

What sort of reality are you in?

The first twenty minutes of the season we looked like relagation fodder, but from that point on we have looked anything but. For sure we are not destined to win the league.
Sunderland, however have a fight on their hands and it does not matter who comes in between now and January they have to work with what they have in the squad. Poyet will do well at first, his style of play will suit most of his players, but he lacks some basic skills. He cannot control his mouth. He blames everyone except himself. When things go badly he gets angry.
