Speaking about the appointment, Sunderland AFC Chairman, Ellis Short, said: “We analysed a wide range of candidates and believe that Gus's track record, experience, commitment and passion make him the right man to take us forward."

Poyet has my backing now as coach, but, seriously, what track record? Brighton?

2 years. It gives him a full season in the conference to get us back up.

Would you swap him for pardew?

I am still totally gutted about Sess, seeing one of the best players for SAFC in the WBA shirt is soul destroying.

Reading some of the comments on other websites are laughable. (cant say they were all sunderland fans like). People going mental saying its embarassing, clubs a joke etc etc. Who can tell who would have been a good choice or not? Maybe Pulis and McClaren would have made us defensively sound and we could well have gone on an undefeated run of 10 games!! However some people would be ripping up their season tickets. Mancini could have flown in by helicopter, spent a billion pounds in January, made us bankrupt and relegated by February.

Who knows how well Poyet will do? Time will tell but he gets my full support in trying to sort out the sh!t of a mess we are in. HWTL

First post for me - been lurking for ages mind.

I am frustrated as ****. Not saying Poyet is the wrong choice, but we are staggering from one manager to the next. I have no confidence in Ellis Short and the rest of the "management" team whatsoever. He is so concerned with losing Premier League status that his plan is to keep throwing hand grenades in to keep us up, and **** the long term continuity of the club.

It ****ing sucks as a supporter to watch. Every year we get loads of new faces in - we all get excited and watch ****ty youtube videos of them, hoping like **** they are half decent. Some of them are, but most of them are ****e. The high turnover of players just breeds a squad of mercenaries - half of this new lot will be gone next year. Off to another 50 grand a week contract. Do they give a toss about the club ? Nope.

I will, as ever, support the team but i would honestly sacrifice this short termism (if thats a word) but a slightly different perspective even if it meant a season in the Championship. Look at what Swansea have done - a great example of how a team with a clear vision can succeed and they have probably spent less than us too.

I am ****ing fed up watching us struggle at the bottom of the league and scrape relegation. We deserve more

Welcome on board mate, have some rep.

Agree with most but unsure about ellis's vision, i think half of him has hired gus as he half expects us to go down anyway, if we dont its a bonus if we do gus is proven in the championship with limited funds and resources. Like you say, maybe thats what it might take.

And btw mate, i wouldnt fancy playing qpr much at the minute either, they look good both on and off paper

KTF fella. Don't panic about Signings mate. As human beings we're all different. Some take to things quickly, some take longer. We need to be patient with our new signings, more will come good I promise. Some will never come good, that's what is going to happen with 10 foreign signings. But Celustka settled instantly, Giacc looked all over the place first few games and far too small to handle this league but he's settled in now and looking very much a next level signing. Roberge looked good on the ball but dodgy defensively but he looked much much better against the Mancs. Mavrias and Moberg-Karlsson were bought as developing fringe players and will come into play more as the season goes on. Ba was signed as a development squad player and is already making the 1st team bench. Jozy has shown he's capable but needs the ball into his feet more. Diakité looks decent but a lot more time is needed to settle. Borini has had no playing time so can't be judged, Ki has settled instantly. There's only Cabral and Mannone who like they could become bad signings and even then we don't know for sure just yet.

Things always look better with a positive spin on it. Don't punish yourself, you don't deserve it. ;)

    Have some rep.

A three year deal? Does that mean he will get sacked after 15 games?

    ELLIS?

As a lifelong SAFC fan, punishment is an all too regular occurrence.

Normally at a quarter to five every saturday....

I am keeping the faith, but sometimes its hard. Thank christ for Stella huh?

I love Stella, turns me into a performing clown.

As a natural optimist and extravert, Sunderland just don't keep me down for long. I'm very lucky, Some really seem to have a hard time following the lads. I know I haven't been supporting the lads as long as a lot of folk on here but I've still seen much more 2nd tier footy then 1st tier footy. I still think we'll stay up, I think we'll finish above Hull anarl. I'm just irritatingly optimistic. :D

Living down in Brighton I follow them quite a bit and he turned the club around from the moment he joined. He saved Brighton from relegation to League 2, then went on to win League 1 in his first full season while getting them to play some good football and had they had a little more luck Brighton could well have been in the Premiership this year.

As fans you'll need to get patient as he likes his team to "pass the other team to death" and won't go full on attack however the speed at which he transformed Brighton was very impressive. I think given time he'll do very well for you.

All the time things are going well he's a top coach, however at Brighton the second things didn't go his way, he's the first to moan and kick up a fuss. He was adored by Brighton fans and in the interview after the semi final play off defeat he went on to criticise the board and questioning whether they could match his ambition - this despite having an owner who had pumped £90mil of his own money into funding a brand new stadium.

It could go either way (stating the obvious I know) but as long as he keeps you up this year, I think he'll make you a settled mid table club - but no doubt he's probably using this as a stepping stone to bigger thigns (no offence intended) as he always talked about managing at the very top.

Wouldn't be surprised if you went for Ulloa (very good target man and goal scorer who Palace had a £5mil bid rejected for in summer) and Bridcutt (ex Chelsea youth player, holding midfield who was player of the year last 2 years) in the winter or summer.

Anyway, good luck and hope and I'm sure you guys will stay up <ok>
