the jury is still out for me with Jozy. He has all the attributes to make him a decent striker, but he has joined a club that is struggling bad now...all that does is highlight his deficiencies..I feel the same about Westwood. At one time he was rated by most on here..not the case now.

Totally agree Bri, although I thought that Altidore did have a poor game the weekend. His lack of ball feed on Saturday means that he really needs to make the most of his touches when he does get them. I thought his touch let him down all afternoon by 1yd every time, and I would have hauled him off for a rest on 60 mins. He is also starting to get visibly agitated during matches quite early on .......... and with some good reason too IMHO.

I bet you could stick Suarez AND Aguero up front in our team and they would end up biting each others arms off in frustration at the lack of service up front !!!!!! ALtidore clearly knows where the net is........ its up to the rest of the Lads to knuckle down and work out how best to provide the service he needs. Once (and if !) that happens, I am certain opinions will soon change to the good . KTF.

I see loads of articles saying something about Altidore which start "I DO like him..... BUT"

I have been guilty of it myself as I do think the lad has an ability but he will NEVER score goals.

Everyone saying "I do like him but..." basically means he's not up to the task but shows the occasional glimpse and has the odd good performance. But the big issue is, who can we replace him with - I rated Wickham but he's going well off the boil now. Ji looked like a headless chicken under Di Canio but seemed much more focussed at the weekend - still won;t score goals though.

Altidore isn't good enough from what I've seen - didn't Di Canio say "one of the best in Europe"?? Hmmm...

agreed. all he got was hoof ball from the back 2nd half, and most of those were miles over his head. you could see him looking at the back-line and Westwood 'questioning their distribution'. If he gets it to feet he can do damage and showed he has fantastic pace for a big lad when he can turn with the ball. He does need to stay on his feet more, but needs others around him to play the game and get much closer for his lay-offs. none of our plyaers were close enough to him 2nd half

I really felt for him when the balls where whizzing over his head or at shoulder height. Every time he got if to feet he held it up and offered a nice lay off. He has lots of pace and works very hard but he was given a thankless task second half.

With Fletcher up there he will be more effective but only if the quality behind him improves. RVP wouldn't get 6 goals in our team given the same service.

The thing is though lads he knows our team and tactics and how we play so why hasn't he adapted to that by getting a bit further forward or laying off waiting for the second ball?
We are just not good enough all over the pitch at present, we've all seen glimpses of good play in most of the games but, we have to keep that level up. If Altidore isn't working try someone else as we have nothing to lose now. Give Borini a start use 3 attackers anything is better than surrendering. If we had give Man U a bit more of a game in the second half we would have gotta point out of that game
It's starting to feel all too familiar this crap as we have all seen it before, my worry now is we will go back to being a yoyo club with mercenary players who don't give a toss about our club.

2 goals in 30 games for us - 1 of which was against Southend. Didn't score a Premier League goal until February (his one and only). Spent the entire 09/10 season having exactly the same argument about JA and he just hasn't changed.

He has a strike partner in various guises and he just wasn't good enough.

i don't get why people are having a go, he's been pretty good most times i've seen him play this season. some of his knock downs were class, and with a strike partner there, or in a team with a bit more commitment going forward, he would have players around him to pick up his passes.

he's just totally isolated at the moment.

i think some of his hold up play is good but he's not physical enough. for a lad who is well over 6 foot and weighs 17 clem he should be out muscleing defenders left, right and centre. he hardly ever wins headers and needs to work on his jumping. also he seems to be the man about the oppo keeper for corners when for me he should be the one steaming in trying to get on the end of the cross

Norwich paid a lot of money for wolfswinkle this season , he has scored one goal in his first game , ok its one more than our guy at the moment ,but i think we will get more from our buy from what i have seen from the guy at norwich, for far less money

He's not that type of player though mate. He's ****e in the air. It's his lay off's we need because that's the strongest part of his game imo. Ball into his feet and he'll retain it so the team as a unit can push higher up the pitch.

i think he needs to work on adapting his game to us though. and a guy his size should be outjumping nearly everybody

Plenty of development in him left. He won't hit his peak for another 5 seasons, plenty of time for him to develop his game. In the meantime he's the best striker at our disposal so we should play to his strengths which just so happens to suit a ball on the deck passing game. Something that suits Ki, Giacc, roberge and from what I've seen the last few games Catts. Get the rest passing and moving to a decent standard and we're in business.

we really need a coach teaching him how to be more physical, outmuscle defenders and cause havoc from set pieces. he is a massive lad so needs to use that to our advantage. he seems to get out muscled way to easy for a lad his size, you would think he would have learned to use it to his advantage

Exactly - just look at his best game for the USA, see the pattern - play the ball through for him to run on to & let him take the bloody free kicks instead of Larsson.

Im still not convinced. He works hard to be fair, but at the end of the day he is a centre forward and as such needs to score goals.

I would like to see him and Fletcher play together - that would be interesting.
