You know this childrens game, there's an amusing little character somewhere in the picture, called Wootton. The challenge is to find him in the middle of all the other distractions put in your way to put you off the scent. Like "announcements" about buying back the ground (well, maybe, [possibly, only kidding), statements that the manager has been "told" to loan a winger (bet that was a revelation to him, that he needed to do that); half price puke-coloured shirt offers, lots of articles about Derby (mainly on the theme of "can we beat them?"... er... no... not in our lifetimes, apparently), interviews with some poor sap of a player who has to parrot on about how the next game will be a crucial turning point.....etc etc I'd just like to know why he suddenly stopped starting, and more than that is not on the bench, yet there's been no report (that I have seen) of any injury. What is going on there, anyone know?
Thanks, strange it has not been mentioned much on OS or BM interviews. Also a pity, he started as if he was the answer (or 50% of the answer anyway) to our defensive problems. I guess there's a difference holding down a first team place v playing in reserves, even when the teams are in very different places in the league. I hope he gets it together as we need the competition for those CB places.
Have heard that Wootton has not been that good the last couple of games. And that he should have been dropped as he has been. So all is as it should be and no mystery
Although we have signed new players this season you have to question how near to first choice the likes of Hunt, Smith, Murphy and Wootton were. Hunt undeservedly started against Derby, two on the bench and one not even making the journey.
If not being good the last couple of games is criteria for being dropped, McDermott will surely be fielding a different starting Xl against Brum!!
Erm. Haven't we been just s bad without Wootton? Defence really isn't our big problem at the moment is it?
I agree, I think Wootton has been fine personally and of the games I have seen hasn't been at fault for any of the goals conceded. Our problem really isn't defence, its the ability to keep the ball and the ability to create chances. If we improve those things I think you'll find we'll concede less as well
Hunt worked his socks off against Bourenemouth so you can't say undeservedly...unwisely maybe but he's earned every second he's had on the pitch. Can't blame a player for not been Messi, can blame a player for not giving his all and Hunt has given his all so in my mind he deserves no criticism at all.
I disagree about that to be honest. Putting in enough effort is all well and good but if your not good enough, your not good enough. Thats not me saying Hunt isn't good enough (although every second he has had in a Leeds shirt points to that) because he may turn it around. But give me the white shirt and I guarantee you I won't stop running and will give my absolute all, I still won't be good enough though.... Too much gets made of this 100% effort thing, if your not giving 100% effort then you shouldn't be a professional footballer, it shouldn't be something we admire about a player and more something we expect from a player.
Sorry, but this is shocking from your defence - an under 9 team wouldn't do this please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
It looked even worse both live and in the highlights. TC your comments are a disgrace. How dare you compare under 9s with that? The under 9s I know are far superior!!!
I'm not saying it makes him an amazing footballers I just don't agree with players who give 110% each match getting stick off fans. If your not Messi, your not Messi. Hunt can't choose to score 20 goals a season but he can choose to give a 110% and he does. And tbh I don't even think he's played terribly when i've seen him. Against Bournemouth he was always getting on the balls and created a penalty and would of got a goal if not brought down.
on a positive note, we made damn sure that Derby player could not shoot, with 3 of us surrounding him. Can't see anything wrong with that strategy Actually I blame Green rather than the CBs for that little trio forming, he was the one who was in the right position to stop thje other guy getting a clear shot
You've missed the point though, EVERY player should give 100% (there's no such thing as 110%) whether they're Messi or Hunt, nothing less. Every player, every game, 100%, so it's not a redeeming feature that Hunt is a trier, a 100 percenter, that's the least to be expected.
I don't agree with players getting stick off their own fans, but at the same time I don't think they should get special attention just because they put effort in, that is their job after all and every player should be putting the required effort in
