Good manager and one I would have liked here had Pardew been sacked.

He's a slightly watered down version of Di Canio though so not sure he'll be the best fit for them.

He'll need to improve things quickly for them as to reach the magic 40 points he already needs 1.3 points a game for the remainder of the season, a victory for them in their next 3 games is crucial and if they don't get one I'd say they're as good as down if they've only got 1 or 2 points from 10 games.

He is a good manager, no doubt about that. His sacking from Brighton was a strange one and you do have to wonder about his attitude when things aren't going so well.

I hope he fails and the Mackems get relegated. <ok>

    They belong in the Championship.

He plays good football but is unproven again (like PDC).
They would have been better off with a Pulis type for a couple of years to bring stability and to give breathing space to make the next manager the right choice..
This would be an odd appointment as Ellis could have got Poyet originally instead of PDC?
There's also the dark cloud of his departure from Brighton.
If Poyet is to keep them up then he will need to be the first manager ever to keep a team up after taking only 1 point from the first 6 games.... a tough ask for someone so experienced.
I hope they stay up though as it's good for the banter.

Bad decision for me. They should have gone for McLaren or Hoddle. Someone with a point-to-prove attitude, but all the experience to deal with that dressing room. Poyet, as a young man with limited experience, is for me going to struggle with this. He had a decent budget at a revamped Brighton and comes into almost a polar opposite situation. No, not the right choice at all. Also, it's added yet another incentive to the Derby. Sunderland, 0-3 and now the bloke who dumped us out of the cup....twice....

I honestly think they need a galvaniser. I don't believe Pulis to be such a manager. He's a guy who i think needs time to provide consolidation. I have never seen 'heroics' and tony pulis in the same sentence, i just think at these points in time you nee someone who will be able to encourage the team to play at a more confident and attacking level, kind of like when keegan popped back to save us.
I'm not saying poyet is definately that guy, but i rekon pulis would have have them picking up a point instead of zero, not what you want at the bottom of the pack

Poyet is a good one for me. He is nuts too though so with any luck the comedy will continue. Don't want them bastards getting Hoddle or someone of that proven calibre. They might get things in place to make them a non laughing stock. Then we'll be really lonely.

One thing for certain thouh, as much as I rate Poyet, he can't make John O'**** good, he can't get Wes Brown to stop his affair with the club physio, and he can't make te rest of them understand each other. So there is plenty of hope that he'll have his hands full. Of course we'll get the backlash of honeymoon period in the derby again. Lets sack Pards and counter it with our own eh?

I can see Pardew being replaced by Di Cannio as the latest in Ashley masterstrokes.

That's the difference between us and them, they deal with their problem and act on it, we on the other hand still have pardew

<laugh> I think that is stretching it. You could say they've had a go at dealing with it several times, but have failed miserably each time. Much to our amusement. We just lurch on. Much to their amusement. Its like each club is a small tonic for the other.

I daresay if we had the same level of problems, we'd "deal with it" too.

But how often have we fell foul to haste? We've took our time with this one and got some middle ground between acting quickly and not at all. Hopefully for Sunderland he's the right man for the job. I love his philosophy, not sure how the Old Guard would feel about another disciplinarian. They've still got a whole season to spit their dummy again and see us relegated. Most of them are in the last year so will probably walk into another premiership club once they're finished with us.

If only our problems were as simple as hiring a new manager.

Something tells me whatever either of us do, it will be a disaster, whether that is 'dealing' with a problem or letting it be.

Its great isn't it. Consistency and success at dealing with adversity is vastly overrated. If Poyet takes you away from being consistently inconsistent, you'll regret his appointment for the rest of time. We are meant to be a pair of underachievers. I could argue our pain is greater. Ours have had the temerity to flirt with the higher echelons in my lifetime and thus the fall is so much greater. But then the cry from over the water is "well at least you have got to taste the non smelly pussy" (or words to that effect which I have changed in some bitter twisted slight).

You should have gone with Souness just to be sure you didn't get above your station. Remember when he was Benfica manager he told Deco he'd never make the grade and promptly replaced him with Mark Pembridge. Now there's a man who guarantees you a **** time.

No sitting on the fence this year. Are we going down or staying up in your opinion?

Good question, unsure tbf I believe we will be in a dog fight that's for sure.
You can't tell what newcastle team turns up week to week.

We have the attacking players to do the business however we lack depth and defensively we are a joke.

British steel is missing hence the lack of back bone and desire.

All depends when pardew gets sacked and how desperate fat mike
What's us to stay up in the January window.

Lets hope they surprise us but with our regime it's doom and gloom

I think we are in a much better place than last season.. and no, that does not mean we are in a good place but despite the fact that there is a lot to be desired from board level to performances on the pitch and on the dugout the football has improved. Right now I am not bricking it like I was the whole of last season. Our neighbours on the other hand need are in deep. Poyet needs to get points on the board fast. I dont want either of us to get relegated. Much more fun when in the same league.
