All of your arguments on this thread in favour of Altidore could also be used in relation to Graham and you've been giving him a right pasting at every opportunity. He is effectively playing as a lone striker too, as Aluko isn't really a striker and drops deep quite a lot. It's funny that they are both having a similar lack of success in terms of goalscoring at clubs that the other has been with previously!

Thought he was alright against United to be fair.

Vidic couldn't handle his strength and pace. But the rest of his game was pretty poor.

Yeah, first half he put himself about abit and won a few fouls. Went quiet for the second half, as did Sunderland.

Spot on!! How much did Sunderland pay to AZ for Altidore. Undisclosed but rumoured to be well over 5 mill. At the same time they loaned out Graham as surperfluous to their needs. That tells me all I need to know about their respective valuations.

Of his supposedly record seven "cheap" international goals in 6 games this summer, he had a hat-trick against Bosnia Herzogovina, one against Germany, and one each against WC qualifier Panama, and a tough Honduras team. Hardly easy opposition.

For Sunderland he's scored against MK Dons in the Capital One cup. Against Man U. in a game that Sunderland dominated before losing 2-1, Altidore, according to press reports "was a big reason for Sunderland's positive start in the first 45 minutes, chasing and harassing the Manchester United back line with hustle and high pressure that earned applause from his home fans at the Stadium of Light". BBC report said "There were ominous signs for United in their failure to cope with Jozy Altidore's physical approach, with even the usually formidable Vidic struggling to contain the powerful striker as he was brushed effortlessly off the ball in some fierce exchanges".

Against Arsenal he scored a brilliant goal that was called back by the ever incompetent Martin Atkinson (see video) after taking Sagna to the cleaners.

Anyone think Graham would have the strength or ability to score that kind of goal?

No. But I can see that Altidore is a huge talent and at 23 has plenty of time to score goals in the Prem.

The Germany game was a friendly and against their B team. I remember distinctly that there were only a few guys I could even name who were on their squad. Bosnia is ok but there are not all that good. Panama is pretty poor there are ranked 35th in the world. Even Honduras is pretty poor now days, some of their starters play for SJ and they are ranked 40th. With Mexico taking a nose dive there really are only a couple teams in Concacaf that are decent. It is basically just the US and Costa Rica that are good. It has been pretty easy opposition he has scored against. That said I do think he will score more goals in the world cup then he will for Sunderland.

The German defense was basically Bayern and Borussia Dortmund players...pretty strong. Panama is a very good team. I watched both of their games against us. Brilliant coach too. Dont think Costa Rica made it through...it was US and Panama. Mexico couldn't score a goal and fired their coach in the middle of qualifiers.

Na, you are mixing Panama and Costa Rica up. Panama wont qualify and have sucked and Costa Rica has basically locked it up. It is US - 16 points, Costa Rica - 15 points, Hondurus - 11, Panama - 8, Mexico - 8, Jamaica - 4

Panama being level with Mexico sums it up. I think you are just mixing up the costa rica and panama sides.

Come on give him a break! He's not getting proper service. If he was playing for Chelsea he would have scored 20 goals already.
It still makes me laugh when I remember how terrible he was for us.

Makes me laugh even more when I remember how terrible he was for us and see a few years down the line he's not improved one bit.

I hope he keeps getting picked for Sunderland.

    I honestly do.

    <laugh>

If knocking the defence about is all a centre forward has to do we might as well go and sign Geoff Capes or Giant Haystacks. They're both big buggars and will be able to knock **** out of the enemy centre halves, couldn't hit a donkeys arse with a banjo but who cares?

He's a very frustrating player. Shows brief glimpses of class then goes right off the boil.

He's 24 in less than a month, if he can't do it now, he never will.

He'll be back in Holland, or back to the states, before the end of next season.

It's all very well saying strikers need the service, but in the modern Premier League clubs often need someone strong and mobile who can forage on their own and cause trouble, Drogba-style - Lukaku being the prime exponent of that at the moment.

Sunderland have made the mistake that many do about Altidore - they've looked at his size and physique and thought he was that kind of player. Wrong.

They may Just may do that against Newcastle on the 26th. Now would that spell the end of Alan Pardew ?

Sunderland should have had saturdays game all wrapped up and put to bed by half time. They then paid the price.
The defending for all 3 goals was piss poor but that winning shot was class once the ball dropped.

Yes they have but he is out on loan @ Everton. Lol.

What do you think of Aron Johannsson Canadatiger?

They talked a lot about Altidore on ESPN today. The panel seemed to differ on if Altidore would make an impact with Sunderland but they all seemed to rave over Johannsson as being the future of the US team. I have to admit the few times I have seen him I have been impressed. He is the kid from Iceland who plays for AZ. What do you think of him?

Sounds like a great prospect and doing well at AZ. Haven't actually seen him play yet but I'll be looking out for him from now on. Looks just like Kevin Bacon
