To be fair his 'goal which should have stood' against Arsenal would have been quite impressive and shows what he should be capable of. Shrugging off the strong attentions of the defender then pacing up to the keeper and knocking it in from an acute angle. He perhaps just needs his first goal to get going.

How much did you pay for him?
I cannot understand why you do not go for really big name signings. You are a massive club.

Was unsure about him to start with but, went with the "oh he was only young last time" and the good old "he scored loads in the Dutch league" bunch. However he has shown absolutely **** all to me to say he will score more than the one he got last time in the PL.
Comparing him to Heskey is being unkind to Heskey for me, at least Heskey scored now and again.

I like Altidore personally and can't understand the animosity towards him. I see a hard working lad who chases defenders down and wins his fair share of aerial battles too.

He has joined a struggling club who have then shot themselves in the foot and thrown a noose around their necks. He has had a perfectly good goal disallowed and has struck the post and bar. He will score a goal and when he does I think he will get a handful. However, he needs support and far better service to feet, not 8ft in the air.

    I hope anyway.

This. Rate the lad myself. He's way better on the ball than heskey was, If only he could get the ball into his feet more oftern as it's clearly the way he likes to play but all his service has been either in the air or for him to run onto. Giacc clearly likes playing around him, I think he, Giac and AJ can make a very good front 3.

Bri, it was going so well until you mentioned AJ.
Wouldnt mind if he got a little niggling injury to keep him out for a few weeks just to give Mav or Karllson a chance. Admittedly after the scumbag game cos AJ was bloody good in that fixture last year

Hear what you are saying Cest but, you don't buy a CF to close defenders down and win his fair share of headers, you buy them to score goals and that is it. Altidore has been unlucky but, barring the Arsenal fiasco hasn't even come close.
For me at least he gets the next two games then is dropped, for his size he should be shrugging off the dodgy tackles on him or, maybe learn to fall over when tackled

Altidore's big issue from what I've seen is he isn't getting balls played I to his feet. For AK Alzmaar the typically played with the ball on the ground so he was using his feet to creat opportunities. With USA, they typically now play a very possession based passing game where Jozy receives the ball at his feet and is then bring the rest of his teammates into play. From what I've seen so far at Sunderland he's get very little service into his feet, and not much service at all.

Jozy isn't a big striker whose going bully defenders around, he's a more technical striker who happens to be built like a train. He really doesn't know how to use his body to his advantage.

Watching a different game you and me fella, Giacc played off him beautifully yesterday when Jozy got the ball into his feet. But like Manabear(who's followed his whole career) has said, he needs to be allowed to play his own game and to do that he needs the ball into his feet. You wouldn't expect Defoe to play the role of a target man effectively? Or Ki to become a hard tackling midfielder? Or how about Michael Turner playing it out from the back?

Think folk should get off his back because he doesn't decide how he receives the ball it's the other planks.

If ever there was a bloke who needed a bit of quality coaching to get the best out of him, it's JA.

I think he could be a real player for us with a bit of time and help from the right manager/coach.

All about opinions, respect yours respects mine, I won't change my mind. He does not have enough in his locker to be Premiership class, too static. Look at Rooney mobile, dropping deep looking for the ball.... Altidore if it wasn't right into feet he shrugged his shoulders .... Like I said lazy, awkward and very limited didn't win one header yesterday a defenders dream FACT :)

I do respect your opinion, but it's my opinion that your opinion is harsh and unfair. If we all shared the same opinion there would be nobody on this forum. Have you got a problem with that? it seems you do.

One perfectly good, disallowed goal and hit the bar once, isn't something I'd be shouting from the rooftops after 7 games.

Granted, his service has been ****e but for me so has his overall play. He doesn't hold the ball up very well and that's the game we seem to be playing these days, he's always on the deck and can't seem to stay on his feet. Just not impressed with him yet mate but I hope he proves me wrong.

Its no coincidence that both he and Bony are struggling.

Didn't they both score 30 goals in the Dutch league? they be lucky to get 10 between them all season and unfortunately I think you have purchased a dud, he may look good in Holland as they give you time on the ball, over here its much harder for strikers so unless you're a suarez or rvp type player, buying from Holland is too risky.
