BBC reporting that Liverpool and Sunderland have agreed a £20 million price for the transfer of Henderson. Fee may or not include David Ngog. £20 million for a relatively untested player. Thank goodness SAF began to back away a while ago. Could be a good long term player but not at that price. Kenny again possibly shopping for bargains in the NW <laugh>.

Real funny thing is that some people are claiming the fee is £12 million plus Ngog who is valued at £8 million. £8 million for him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wonder what we'd get for Gibson?

That might stop them from approaching us about a permanent deal for Welbeck, which is a good thing imo.

Read on the Liverpool forum that Sunderland fans claim the lad prefers RM instead of CM. That might be part of the reason SAF's interest began to reduce. Don't get me wrong, from what I've seen the lad if he could play and adapt more to a CM role, could be a good prospect. But again the price for a player whose final role is still to be determined and who is untested at the very highest level is quite steep.

Is it any worse than us considering spending similar on Rodwell? Not really.
I agree with the above, I think he's a good signing for them, English with great potential. You've got to take a chance and there is the premium on him being English.
I just hope we start snapping up some players soon, and not all wingers either.

with all due respect didn't you pay £20m for Anderson and a similar fee for Carrick (Think about where Spurs were at the time) who were untested at the highest level?

I think £20m is a bit too much (£15m + N'Gog sounds a bit better) but maybe thats the sort of prices we have to pay to have the same clout Chelsea, Man City & Man Utd have in the transfer market

Arsenal would command a price higher then we did for Torres. I don't think its just english players but any player moving from english club to english club. Look how much Man City paid for Gareth Barry, Joleon Lescott and a 30+ shay given

    Welcome back El Dub!

Anyway, back to topic, We weren't out much really when we bought Carroll & Saurez as it was covered by the sale of Torres and Babel. Also this deal should be covered by Aquaman transfer so we still have money in the bank to go after the big targets :emoticon-0109-kiss:

A risk, yes but I very shrewd signing, especially if the figures of £13m + Ngog are true. Wickham from Ipswich will replace him and still leaves our kitty for Enrique and a few bigger players!

Henderson, 4 goals in 71 appearances for Sunderland. Prem Experience. Fee around £13m + £1m Ngog
Anderson, 2 goals in 73 appearances for Man United. No Prem Experience. Fee around 30m euros, or £26m.

Plus Hendersons passes reach a team-mate...Andersons reach the opposition.

Im just please United haven't signed him, particularly at this price.

My dad is a season ticket holder at Sunderland and doesn't think he is anything special nor has he impressed when I've seen him play.

I'd much rather we invested in a proven central midfielder at United, a solid player like De Rossi from Roma

It is definitely a funny one. Not sure why Liverpool are buying CMs when they already have Lucas, Gerrard and Meireles and are apparently also linked to Adam. Are they going for a midfield diamond next year?

Well, Sunderland and Blackburn are apparently willing to pay £6 million for Gibson, and Bolton are considering an £8 million bid for Jonny Evans if Gary Cahill leaves. So on that basis, N'Gog is probably worth around £7-8 million. The world's gone mad I tell you.

Nice try there. But when we bought Anderson the exchange rate made him around £19 million, so they were about the same price given the value Liverpool put on N'Gog. Last season Anderson's pass completion rate was 82.5% and Henderson's was 77.5%. Oh, and Anderson has three PL winners medals <ok>

    Jog on son...

    If you wanna talk stats....

Last season he created more chances Young, Bale, Nani, Silva, Kuyt, Jarvis, Downing, Johnson, Zog & Lennon.

how many of those games has each player started.also andersons passing stats are at 85% which is good considering the more difficult passes he trys.

And Traore has a champions league medal, I thought you knew better then to judge player quality based on medals won. You're lucky you backed yourself up with the pass completion rate :D

My comparison wasn't to say we're getting a better deal for Henderson then you did for Anderson it was to make the point that sometimes top clubs gamble on unproven players. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't

the created chances stat is pointless, because it doesnt say what that actually means.is it clear cut chances or half chances?

also henderson started 37 pl games last season.anderson only started 14.

in the 09/10 season henderson started 23 pl games, anderson only 10.plus i dont think henderson has had the injury problems andersons had.

henderson is one for the future, but comparing him to anderson to justify liverpools signing of henderson is wrong, because of their different situations.

Err, no he didn't. He's not even in the top 20 for PL assists. He's behind Young, Jarvis and Chung-Yong Lee.

    http://www.premierleague.com/page/Statistics/0,,12306,00.html

    Try again <ok>

I wasn't replying to you, I was pointing out the obvious fallacies in Doyler's argument. Ultimately both players are still young and have a lot of developing to do. It's impossible to tell who's getting the better deal at the moment, although Anderson has already proved he can play at the top level for United in both the PL and CL. It's also interesting to see that the one season he played fewest games for us through injury was the one season since he joined that we didn't win the league (09/10).

Btw, do you reckon Liverpool actually need Henderson? What with you already having Gerrard, Lucas and Meireles playing the middle, and potentially needing wingers to get the best out of Carroll, how do you see him fitting in next season?
