Felt that we tried crossing balls into the box and that we should have realised it wasnt working after the second attempt as neither Church nor Sordell can head the ball... the only we'd have scored would have been from long range or had we tried to pass the ball through them. Hamer - 6 - Made some good saves, glad he kept a clean sheet and felt sorry for him at times as every time he wanted to distribute by throwing the ball out he couldnt cos the defence kept their back to him. Wiggins - 5 - Made some good runs but his crosses werent up to scratch Morrison - 6 - Strong in Defence, barely lost any headers Wood - 6 - A good signing from CP and works well with Morrison. Stephens - 7 - Great first half though sadly faded a little in the second especially when Pritchard was brought on as he seemed to slot back into the middle I think he's most effective on the right (maybe as it means he doesnt have two opposing central midfielders pressing him constantly) Gower - 5 - Didnt notice him much but he's a good footballer brain, shame the legs are going Cousins - 7 - Another great game from the young man, only a couple of passes went wild but thats to be expected from the youngster... he'll learn in time Harriott - 5 - Ran around like a headless chicken today I'm afraid, back to basis Church - 5 - Continues to run hard but where have his shooting boots gone Sordell - 4 - He ran about a bit more and would have given him a 5 but his attitude when being subbed was a complete and utter joke... Your not bigger than the club Nemo!! Subs Pritchard - 5 - Am guessing he came on because Gower couldnt handle two games in a week, would have preferred Hughes after his cameo against Forest Stewart - 4 - Didnt even notice him / Couldnt see him Pigott - N/A - Sadly won a header which means the squad will think he's able to win them all so means even more long balls will be fired up to him
Ha ha. I've been dreaming of a Leaburn for Sordell swap. I apologise to Tewks again, as he was very right about Sod-all, when I was all excited about signing a young striker. Still, when you're Young, it's easy to get over excited about new signings..........
I'm a bit frightened of the expectation we are piling on Yann's shoulders. He was out of touch at the start of the season, and now he's coming back from injury and we all hope (pray) he'll turn it around. Desperate stuff.
I think the good thing about having Yann back Ken isnt the fact that he'll be back but the fact that when a ball gets lumped or crossed into the box Yann should either be able to head it into the goal or bring it down for Church to stroke (literary) into the net I guess thats a lot of facts to have to rely on
I'm manifesting an inner hatred for sordell and I haven't even seen him play much at all... haha Why oh why do we keep him if that is the attitude he shows in Charlton colours ? He is doing nothing, offering nothing, so the excuse we have no one better is not valid. Get rid of him.
Love the joy on here after not following up the Forest draw with a win . I thought we did ok battled well got a clean sheet wood cousins and Stephens excelled for me
My initial caution arose from his performances for Team GB at The Olympics - I know it was meant to be an International development squad and all but I remember thinking during one game - "what is he doing on the field?" We've got a couple of Trotters at work and they both mentioned his potential and his attitude and both concluded that the latter would ultimately subvert the former. Shame.
I do wonder if the guy walzing off the pitch in ultra-slow motion in front of the manager maybe because CP was so worried about Blackpool he told the players 0-0 would be a great result. The applauding the fans bit, however, suggests what everyone is now saying is true. This guy is a waste of space, and sending him back might free up some money for a loan player who thinks he needs to play football. Or a bid to buy Lisbie?
Vol, I was finding myself agreeing with you in this thread and then you did this. Not thinking Chris Powell should be sacked is not the same thing as blindly endorsing every player, I still think Churchy might come good, Sordell on the other hand is like a new Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink, flashes of brilliance cancelled out by an arrogance, an idleness and a moral-sapping ability to blame anyone but himself. Bear in mind that Chris Powell spent the summer trying to secure Obika's services, that Yann is out and Piggot isn't quite the finished product, now we've got him Powell has very little option but to start him. Don't equate "CP fans" with support of everything that is negative on and off the pitch at the club it's lazy and demonstrates a lack of critical thought.
I've still got a lot of patience towards Church... His attitude on the pitch for not knowing a lost cause and running after everything is one reason and am sure with a bit of confidence (and maybe having Yann's knock downs back) he'll soon be scoring goals again
Although it was disappointing that we had nothing up front, we were very good at the back, and never looked like conceding. The back 4 were excellent, I thought, and with Cousins in front of them we will have more clean sheets before too long.By the time our next game comes round we should have Kermit back (hopefully with Pig) , Jacko should replace Harriott and a couple of weeks after that hopefully Solly back with Wilson moving forward to wide right, which looks like a good team, on paper at any rate.
L.L ....i almost found myself agreeing with you there, until you reverted to the old pro CP default excuse of him being the footballing version of Oliver Twist. In this case its not just CP asking for "more", its us fans.... Lets look at three of his recent signings.... Gower. Met him at the open day. Lovely bloke, but his legs have palpably gone. Even at this level the game by passes him, the occasional decent pass aside. 5/10 signing. Is he really better than Hollands ? Church. Mr Powder Puff. Must have candy floss in his boots. Gives 100% but would not score 20 goals a season if the season in question went on to 2020. Is he really better than BWP, or Haynes ? Our Bovril guzzlers will always love him though, because he runs his socks off. Sordell. A badly researched panic loan. Smacks of doing one of CPs many mates in football a favour, probably Freedman in this instance. Aside from his playing record, even a quick look at the Bolton message boards or the player's own Twitter page clearly mark Sordell down as a wrong un. I dont want an "entrepreneur" as my striker with pretensions to be Dizzee Rascal, I want another Derek Hales or Clive Mendonca....even CP classic signing Frank Nouble would be an improvement..... Please Sordell...sod off. Too many Tweets make a twat, which is what Sordell is. Did you see him casually stroll off yesterday, with us sitting 20th in the table ?
Different type of players, they played together very well in the development team. I see Smith as more of a provider, the most accurate crosser of a ball we have. Because of his size he seems destined to be used as a big target man, but his finishing is the weakest part of his game at the moment. Finishing is something Pig does very well (watch his positional play in the box), and Smith laid on a few sitters for him in the under-21's. He even reminds me of Paddy Powell at times. He's been at the club a long time now, and if he doesn't get a chance soon he'll have to be classed as another failed signing.
I must be a bovril guzzler I have loadsa time for church he reminds me very much of Gary Nelson and I like players who give there all for the cause.
Some people are too easily pleased. It is sheer folly to view yesterday's performance as anything other than dross.
That could be interpreted as an insult to your fellow posters, yes we would all like to see a Barcelona style performance but most of us are realistic about the finances and the squad. It wasn't Barcelona but it wasn't (with the exception of Sordell) dross. I do not expect us to break into the Europa league this season or next; I hope that we have enough quality to stay in the division until the FFP rules bite on those owners who are hoping they go away; I hope that we get our major assets back contributing in the near future; and I wish that CP would see the same strengths and weaknesses in his squad members that I do. Sod all chance of that. I do not think we should over react and get rid of what many people both inside and outside of this club recognise as a good manager, just because we lost to Millwall or because we only got a draw yesterday. Am I easily pleased - If you worked for me you would know that I am not, however, I see a manager who is doing his best with limited resources and some of his best production equipment out of order awaiting repair. If when the line is back in full production the problems persist then I will re-evaluate the problem.
The manager procured the production equipment, yes? Does he possess a back-up plan for when a key component fails to function? Is he culpable for this failure to plan ahead? Do you evaluate the problem once your manager has churned out a pallet-load of wonky goods, or do you nip the problem in the bud forthwith? To be honest, SVC, I fear for your company, I really do.
