I don't mean to sound like im being inflammatory but if memory serves reidy had micky grey at left back and chris makin at right back who both liked to bomb on and overlap their wingers allan johnston and nicky summerbee who both knew how to both run at defenders and to pick a pass. He also plucked a little known little striker from watford who went on to beat henry to golden boot. We played good football under reidy and league may have changed but thats why I'd have bally as head coach as he is more in touch with it but as the old saying goes form is tempory class is forever and reidy was a class manager who got 100% out of his players and 100% is all any of us can ask of those who wear our shirt. Listen to reid speak about anything football releated and you can see he's still got that passion and hunger and had we have had ellis short in charge back then instead of bloody murry we would not have been a yoyo club for so long and reidy would probably have become the most successful manager in our history. Like I said I don't want to sound like I'm picking a fight but I feel you may be selling reidy short.[/QUOTE] """"""""""""""""""""" You don't sound like you're picking a fight at all marra... It's your opinion! You make some valid points and anyone who is under 45 years old will probably say that Reidys team is the best they have seen (including myself !) My point is that ... The transfer window is firmly shut so he couldn't find another 'little unknown striker'.. And I don't think he has the nous to sort the current 'lot' out. Since leaving Sunderland his CV isn't much to rave about... Especially Coventry & Plymouth. Don't get me wrong... If he arrives I'll be singing his name loud & proud... But.. I hope it's not the case! And for every good find (SKP) there is a boo boo... When he was at Man City he had another 'little unknown striker' on trial but didn't fancy the lad and sent him back. He then signed for Celtic.... Step forward Henrik Larrson
Reid's tactics were not that much different to Tony Pullis: that is, get the ball out wide and then get it back into the front to as quick and as many times as possible..
Bad move to bring Reid back imo. Great history but little future. Hasn`t exactly set the managerial world alight. Don`t think I want KB near the 1st team either now. All the `Bally`s wonderful` slop over the last couple of days has put me right off. The last thing a new manager coming in needs is a bunch of players who are all of the opinion someone else should have had the job. Really bad crack for me that like. Don`t think the players have done themselves or KB any favours at all.
Ji Gards Seb Vaughan Bardo Cuellar Westwood All with one year left. Good riddance to the lot of them. Should go a long way towards breaking down this clique and moving on lads who just don't cut it. If any of them win a new contract I'll be staggered. Problem is they've still got time to spit their dummy if Ellis doesn't appoint their man and relegate us. Held to ransom by those knackers!
Everyone seems to be forgetting how bad it was in Reid's last season with us, the football was dire the players were dire and the transfers were dire. Yes we had our best years without a doubt under him but that was a long long time ago lads, big **** off NO from me.
Totally agree with Bri...get rid of all the deadwood! You have named 7 players who you don't rate as good enough ,and who am I to disagree??Give the likes of Cabral,Roberge and Mavrias a chance. Why have we signed 14 players, and and are still playing the players who got us in the garbage in the first place??
Interestingly these have two years left Mannone Brown O'Shea Wickham Maggie said there'd be no more busy transfer windows but I see another two seasons of busy windows myself. Hardly a present issue I know. Just thought it was interesting.
We'd better be busy otherwise we will have a 5 a-side team after everyone has run their contracts down and f'cked off!
Don't say that too loud marra... The players will be on SkySports 2moro saying "Bri is a good lad & would do a good job"!!
I wasn't too surprised when Di Canio was sacked. I was more surprised when I found out the reason. I was shocked when I heard the 'senior players' had 'revolted'. Now I'm sickened that there's a 'we want Bally, he's mint' campaign from the 'Brit' players etc which now looks like it was a plan all along. After 50 years of support I'm wondering if this club has any chance of getting out of this rut. We had a modern manager who was deep thinking, dedicated and prepared to work night and day for SAFC. Because some players & supporters were shuffled out of their comfort zone he's gone. Now we're talking about Bally and Reidy to take us into the future. I look at some of these threads every day and think 'Please, no.' After Di Canio was sacked through 'player power' what are the chances of any other credible manager risking taking the job knowing that any change will be resisted? We've really shot ourselves in both feet this time.
Fear you could be right mate not looking forward to the new manager coming in if he is one of the names suggested, none of which fill me with any confidence. Got a really nasty feeling Short will go for the cheap option hope I'm wrong mind.
I guess the worst case scenario is that Short has looked at cost of relegation and will now plan for that drop in income. The naming of the new manager, who ever that is, will give us a clue to his thinking. Someone like Poyet, Zola will say to me, he still has ambition, someone like Pulis says, hope for best, but preparing for the worst
Absolutely. Another thought occurs to me, ES is a very astute, successful business man albeit in a completely different field. I would be very surprised if he wasn`t fully aware of the clique common denominator. That may have a bearing on the hiring of PDC. Someone tough enough to peg them back. Unfortunately he went to extremes and it backfired. Bri`s earlier list at #25 seems to me to be the core of the problem and imo any new bloke would need the courage to drop them and leave them dropped. No fuss, no histrionics. Just let them quietly disappear from the team sheet. It would need someone firm, media savvy, and calm. Who, I haven`t the faintest idea but I hope ES does.
That's the problem though mate we haven't a clue who and it's beginning to look like the top people don't either.
