v Saturday 4th October 2013 3pm kick-off Referee: Keith Hill Following on from Tuesday nights draw with Nottingham Forest, Charlton return to action this Saturday with the visit of Blackpool. A match over the years where we've seen a mixed set of results against including a 2-2 draw which saw Charlton relegated to League One and a 2-0 victory last season at Blackpool where the travelling faithful witnessed a superb volley from Chris Solly scoring only his second goal for the club. The Opposition After a strong start to the season (which saw Blackpool fighting with Queens Park Rangers at the top of the Championship) Paul Ince's side have fallen away slightly in recent weeks after three successive draws with Leicester, Huddersfield and recently Bolton (scoring three goals in the process) and will be looking to bounce back from their trip to the Valley. Key Men With a number of departures from Blackpool in the summer the surprise of the summer in the Championship had to be Thomas Ince staying with the Lancashire club after turning down the opportunity of signing for promoted Cardiff City during pre-season. Returning Riccardo Fuller who spent last season with the Addicks has so far scored two goals this term will no doubt lead the line fora side who prefer to play a 4-5-1 formation. Previous Meetings 12.01.2013 - Charlton Athletic 2-1 Blackpool Jackson, Wagstaff; Eccleston 06.10.2013 - Blackpool 0-2 Charlton Athletic (Cort, Solly) 18.04.2009 - Charlton Athletic 2-2 Blackpool (Burton, Shelvey; Campbell, Hughes) 06.10.2008 - Blackpool 2-0 Charlton Athletic (Dickinson) Charlton Team News After reading Chris Powell's press conference comments from twitter this morning it looks like Johnnie Jackson and Yann Kermorgant will be missing from the squad this Weekend, Chris Solly at an Addicks meeting last night confirmed that he is still 3-4 weeks away from a return yet Powell has confirmed that Bradley Pritchard should be back in the team after recovering from concussion against Burnley last weekend. Likely Team to face Blackpool Hamer Wilson - Morrison - Wood - Wiggins Gower - Cousins - Stephens Harriott Sordell - Church Substitutes Bench Alnwick - Evina - Dervite - Hughes - Pritchard - Stewart - Pigott A4L's Prediction: 2-1 (Stephens & Sordell)
For various reasons outside of the control for various members we've been unable to have any official match threads for the majority of this season. As Im currently unemployed I'm getting bored sitting at home so am happy to take on the role for the time being (and if people are happy I'll try to continue when back in work) The above is my first effort so go easy on me... I've tried to base it on the excellent versions that both Belv and JapanAddick created with maybe a few differences If there are areas people would like to see included / removed let me know before October 17th and I'll try to accommodate where possible for the Blackburn match
A good preview A4L. I see no reason to change the team that played on Tuesday night, the only change I would possibly make to your lineup would be to leave Cook on the bench rather than bring Pritchard back. I have always been a fan of having plenty of attacking options on the bench and Dervite and Hughes are versatile enough options from a defensive point of view. I will go for a 2-1 Charlton victory.......Sordell & Cousins
To be completely honest it was all part of my master plan that I was planning to pass on to Chris Powell Go out there with 10-men, the opposition think "WTF!!" whilst they're still scratching their heads we run around them and score a couple?
This is my team assuming all fit to start: Hamer Wilson, Morrison, Wood, Wiggins Pritchard, Cousins, Hughes, Stephens Church, Harriott Gower may need to replace Hughes, Stewart to replace Harriott, and Pigott to replace Church as they tire. Or Stewart to replace Pritchard if we are chasing the game. Don't be fooled by Sordell's goal. He is useless. It is like playing with 10 men. As he is not even our player there is no point persevering with him. I appreciate Pritchard was appalling last time out, but Wilson needs some help on that flank because he is not as good as Solly as an out-and-out defender. CP loves Pritchard and he will start if 100% fit. Not much goal threat in that team, but what can you do? We are thin up front until Kermorgant gets back.
for me hamer wilson, morro, wood, wiggins dervitte harriott, cousins, hughes, stephens church try and win it by having the majority of the possession. stewart and sordell to come on in the 80th min to nick a winner
I'd be surprised if there are any changes from tuesday. It was the best midfield performance I've seen for ages, plenty of chances created, and not many conceded. I am an admirer of Hughes, but if he comes in for Gower you have a different formation, I don't think he can play wide-ish right. Stephens has to stay on the left, if he keeps playing like that it's like we've signed a new player. Cousins has actually raised his performance from when he was in the under-21's, which I haven't seen a player do before, makes me wonder if he might become one of the first names on the team-sheet soon. Sordell isn't very good, but when Pigott gets his next start I would like it to be alongside Kermit.
Have just seen that Dan Gosling of Newcastle United (formly of Everton) has joined Blackpool on a month long loan am guessing he'll go straight into their squad for tomorrow
Fine post, A4L. You'll be back in work before you know it - stick at it. I can see us nicking this one tomorrow, 2-1 say. As long as we play our 'normal' game and don't stick half the side on marking Ince, while the rest run all over us we should be fine. Fuller will be a problem, as much for being a returning player as for his undoubted skills and joking aside, if Gosling plays we're going to have to watch him like a hawk. Sorry about that.

Cheers for the preview A4L. Hard to say which Charlton will turn up tomorrow, the Millwall or the Forest version. Worried about Blackpool signing Gosling, he never ducks a challenge.
Well is isn't, so he won't. Not sure who I would prefer to replace him, Gower or Stewart. I guess start with Stewart. Makes it more like 4-3-3.
Excellent thread A4L. Cheers. Hard one to call this. If injuries are as we fear the only changes I'd make from Tuesday are Hughes for Gower and Stewart for either church or Sod All.
Nice work, A4L. The job is yours, I reckon. And good luck with the job searching. I have a few contacts, so you are welcome to pick my brains - depending on your line of work. Same side as Tuesday for me. Ideally I'd prefer Hughes in for Gower, but the latter deserves to keep his place for at least the first half. Same with Sordell; he scored the goal with a neat finish, and a similar output will do for me. As for Gosling, you lot don't half gaggle on about him. In the grand skein of things, he isn't important - as long as we don't fowl him in the box!
