I love Watford but... have we got the worst whinging bunch of supporters in the land? Expectation levels seem to be up there with the plastic clubs, these in the stand warriors think they know more about the game and the players than GFZ and the back room boys, this is a war not a battle, I for one trust our owners and GFZ and don't think I could do a better job and certainly cant buy the players people seem to think we're missing. Well it's been a rubbish day and the game tonight just fitted the theme....
Any "fan" that thinks we will win every game is totally deluded. This is the Championship for heavens sake, and the general rule seems to be that any team can beat any other team. We haven't won at Blackburn since 2000 Jon Marks said, and it was always going to be a hard game. When you see the Twatter on Twitter before a game you have to wonder if people have anything between the ears and I dread to think what the WO bright boys will come up with now the game is over.
Don't think you're the worst fans in the world by any stretch of the imagination. You seem like a decent club with decent fans to me.
We were crap tonight , end of. That's not moaning that's a fact. The Pozzo's won't put up with it so GFZ had better pull his socks up
We are not that bad Aberdeen....surely? Expectation has risen recently, esspecially due to last season. However, maybe the people (and at 30 I might fit into this category) who can remember a (fair) few seasons back maybe we should feel proud as to where we are now. I'd like to point out though, expectations are a good thing to have and without them we'd just rot into a mundane rut. These expectations need to be reasonable though, this is a tough league and everyone can beat anyone on their day. Class is permanent and maybe we have enough in our squad to meet my expectation of a top six finish. If we don't though, well I won't be winging just dissapointed given the resources Zola has at his disposal.
EVERY team has the occasional off-day. Unfortuantely we do seem to have some fans who go from one extreme to the other depending on results. We win and there is quite a lot of arrogance, we lose and it's we are awful, the manager is awful, the players are awful, it's the owners fault, we need a new East Stand blah blah blah. Fortunately it is just the minority - but sometimes a vocal minority! Blackburn is a tough team, and are finally getting the results they should be with the players they have. It is no shame to lose at their ground. It is how we react that shows what sort of team we are, and don't think Zola will allow too many performances like that - expect changes Saturday. It'll be another tough away game, but we seem to do quite well in Yorkshire recently!
I doubt we could ever get close to be the "worst in the world". Probably expectations are running a bit high in some and are not very realistic, not wanting to generalise too much, but it's probably an age thing. Little Miss W_Y is a good example, when we start losing she gets all negative and comes out with "we are rubbish" type comments! Us old gits have seen the up's and down's and have a bit more perspective. Anyway, how can we be worse than those tramps just up the M1?
¡¡Rome wasn´t built in a day!! Even though, most of our squad, manager and owner probably know this better than most some fans will remain more short sighted and treat each game like the world cup final.
Seems to be a high percentage of knee-jerk reactions to a loss or poor performance. Everyone knows the North West Frontier ain't a happy hunting ground for Watford; last season two losses + two draws - and both of those draws after being in the lead! So far it's 2 losses out of 2 up there, I'd be surprised if we get much out of Bolton or Burnley away. Zola isn't on the pitch and players aren't machines. Hopefully we can get it right on Saturday, a break so everyone can recharge batteries (and hopefully Abdi is back as we definitely miss him) and we continue to build.
Let's be honest here we haven't played well for weeks. On the plus side we have been picking up points. We are certainly missing Abdi and no one else has really stepped up. The team are still trying to gel, some of the players are still getting used to the English game. There are some real bright sparks out there especially on the Wobby forum but, mind you, you should have heard the muppet behind me when I was at the Arsenal - Villa game at the start of the season (Mrs H-F has a season ticket which I borrowed for the day) - a YouTube video nasty in the making!
I think we all agree we haven't been playing brilliantly for 90 minutes yet this season but we have managed to shut the back door to a reasonable extent and made an incredible number of goal scoring opportunities. Yes it does tend to be the younger element who tend to think we're world champions one week and then calling for sack the clueless manager the next. I've decided to try and avoid seeing these vastly swinging opinions and bury myself in the sanity of John Marks commentaries and this type of board where folk take a more balanced seasoned view. When it clicks we'll be awesome and the tuesday after may lose 2-0 to yeovil, its the nature of this league!!!! QPR haven't exactly set the world alight but the points tally is pretty good....
Of course I want us to win every game which is (IMO) what being a fan is all about - of course I realise we won't win every game but that doesn't detract from me wanting and willing us to win every game - I dream we will thrash man u and chelski and when we play them I start out believing we will - knowing we wont - if that makes sense.
I guess its a case of the greater expectations some have the more those fans will complain as we hear with the big boys... Don't think anyone minds what happens so long as all the players have given their best and played somewhere near their ability... Of course what doesn't help generally is the expensive prices and the fact most players are paid more in a week than most are in a lifetime so people get all hot and bothered about a team not playing well the higher up you go. In the Championship is unlikely your going to be perfect every game - they are humans - rich yes but just humans. Anyway its Watford - we never seem to win 2 games in a row when its Saturday/Tuesday and in Lancashire. I am surprised people were so confident against a Blackburn side improving.
I would suggest that even those workers on the current minimum wage will be paid more in a year (never mind their lifetime) than Watford players are paid in a week! Or am I missing something?
I think its more a figure of speech, even average worker starting now will earn a couple of million across life span. In our generation (baby boomers) I think the average will still be over a million not many players on a million a week!!!!
I like these threads because it's interesting to see the sdifferent opinions held by people who all support the club. It's a few years since i had my season ticket in the Lower Rous but i think part of the problemm is that most of the regulars were pretty quiet so when any eejits started really salting the team it was very audible. I really used to object to the abuse of inidvidual players especially when swearing was used. We had a lot iof kids in there at the time and it's not acceptable - not entirely constructive either IMHO. In terms of fans now, i only really use this forum and am really impressed by the objectivity and general lack of moaning especially given the diversity of ages of forum regulars. We alos have a good number of posters on here who can turn constructive criticism into something of an art form. Living in london I have friends who support a whole rainge of clubs (I'm sure you all do too) and I find that there's a lot more complaining going on. You only have to look at this summer's discontent at the emirates to see that - jeepers we'd kill to be as rubbish as arsenal wouldn't we?
