Notice that Torres has got away with scratching the face of Vertonghen, can you imagine the furore is that was Barton, there would be people wanting to throw him to the wolves. The inconsistency of the FA astounds me.

Probably because he got the red card when it wasn't a foul. So they consider a red card was sufficient overall.

"What do you think about Fernando Torres escaping disciplinary action from the FA? Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel reckoned the Chelsea striker's actions were equally as bad as the bite which landed Liverpool forward Luis Suarez with a 10-match ban."

...but when Barton was sent off against Manchester City it wasn't a foul either... it was about five counts of criminal assault.

On occasion I've been accidently caught by my wife's red fingernails, but I took it in my stride and didn't get freaked out by it - oh more, oh more please!

Bit their difference is he got an one game ban but deserved three which he would have got if he played for a small team.

Its ridiculous that tickling someone counts as violent conduct anyway as cisse found out.

Isn't the problem was that he was booked for the scratching incident so he would argue that he had already been punished for it?

The incident itself was really weird. I've seen players throw punches, try to gouge out eyes and bitch slap, but the way Torres felt Vertonghen up was odd. A ban? Yes, but we also need the footballing world and beyond to remind the weirdo on every occasion just how strange his behaviour was for the rest of his life.

Frankly, I'd die with embarrassment if that had been the only way of expressing myself in that situation that had sprung to mind... and it had been captured on film for the world to see. It's cringeworthy, but I suppose the thick, rich **** doesn't give it a moment's thought.
