Di Canio 'parted company' with Sunderland after only 175 days in charge with the side bottom of the Premier League with one point from five games. Di Canio's statement reads: "Further to my contract being terminated with Sunderland AFC I wanted to issue this brief statement. "When I joined the club last season with the aim of saving them from relegation I was happy to be offered the opportunity to manage in the Premier League. I walked into a challenging situation but achieved what I was asked to do, the highlight of which was the fantastic performance and win against Newcastle, which is something I will always remember. "When you bring in 14 new players, many from overseas and very few with Premiership experience it is going to take time for them to adapt to the English game and to gel as a team. As I have said many times, I love English football and I feel that my time at the club has been unfairly cut short as given the chance, I am certain that had I been allowed longer, I would have been able to develop the team to achieve the success Sunderland fans desire. "There has been a lot written in the media in recent days, much of it wholly untrue. There was no training ground bust up as some are reporting and many of the players have since sent me messages thanking me for my time as their manager and helping them to improve as footballers. "We could see that results had not gone as well as any of us had hoped, but I felt as a team we could turn things around. "I remain confident in my ability and I want to manage again in England as soon as I can. When things like this happen it is important to take something positive from it. I have learnt a lot from my brief time at Sunderland and I am sure that this will only make me a better manager in my next job. "Even though my time at the club ended prematurely, I would like to thank Sunderland for giving me my first opportunity to be a Premier League manager."
I'll state my case and say that most Sunderland supporters will look back and regret Di Canio going at some time in the future.
Never ever thought PDC would be a long term manager but would deffo prefer him to be here as opposed to the likes of JOS, Cuellar, Seb, Vaughan etc.
Totally agree .. gutted it didn't work out and I think, if he learns to handle the modern day culture then he will be a great manager
the shame of it is he had a lot of good ideas and theres is no question that he is a top notch coach. i loved the fitness regime and getting the lazy bastards training a lot cos lets face it a lot of them have been ****e for a fair few season now. if he can work on his man management skills and not treat the players with contempt he could do a good job somewhere.
PDC never wrote that statement for sure, listen to any of his interviews or press releases and it's all broken english. Some twat has polished that for him. He's gone, who gives a ****? Thanks for keeping us up and the 0-3, will never ever forget that but that was all you did, get over it.
i've never hidden my thoughts about PDC...the guy is a loose cannon, totally out of his depth in this league and his man management skills amount to zero. I would be amazed if he managed in this country again
He'll manage in the Premier League in my opinion. If people like Holloway can do it then there's every chance.
if he can work on his man management skills he could be a really good manager. he seems to be a really good coach and has good ideas about training and stuff but you cant treat the players with the comtempt like he did. there has to be carrot and stick and not all stick
it seems like we cant get a manager with the right balance. we either have a lunatic who has no man management skills or someone who is too up players are arses. theres no need to be a dictator to be a good leader and the players need to want to play for him. we really have to get the manager situation right this time
The 3-0 against the mags was fantastic. Unfortunately, the 6-1 against Villa was less so. I was sad to see him go, but I am still not wholly convinced by him. He's probably too dogmatic at the moment, but if he tones it down I think he has a lot to offer.
i think if he learns his lessons from how things here have gone wrong. goes back down to league 1 or championship and regroups i still think he could be a very good manager in the future. he excells in some areas and is severly lacking in others. if he can work on that he will be a success at some level
