Joey Barton admits he should not have ruled out a return to QPR Last Updated: September 30, 2013 4:35pm please log in to view this image Joe Barton: Has produced some impressive displays for QPR Joey Barton regrets his negative Twitter comments about returning to QPR and wants to help the club get back to the Premier League. The 31-year-old midfielder spent the last campaign on loan at Marseille, but R's boss Harry Redknapp welcomed him into the side this season, despite Barton's suggestions on social media that his career in west London was over. Barton has repaid Redknapp with some impressive form, including a goal scoring display in Saturday's 2-0 win over Middlesbrough, and admits he is loving life again at Loftus Road. He told Sky Sports News: "I was quite vocal on Twitter saying I'm not going back to QPR, I'm not going to play in the Championship. That's a fact which has been rammed down my throat a few times since. "It makes you feel a bit stupid, you have to laugh and I'm enjoying my football. I'm really enjoying working for Harry. It's a good set of lads there. "It's a football club I think that's had a lot of healing to do over the summer. I don't think we're fully healed yet. I don't think we'll be fully recuperated until we're back in the Premier League. That's the goal, it's been the goal since day one since I've walked back in there." Barton makes no secret of his desire for a move back to Marseille at some stage in his career, but could be tempted to stay at QPR for a longer spell if they secure promotion. "I think everyone knew I wanted to go back to Marseille. I had a great affinity with the club. I had a great relationship and still do to this day," said Barton. "Hopefully one day I will go back and play there because I loved everything about being there. I know the feeling is mutual, but obviously I'm really enjoying my football at QPR. "Everyone I think in European football, certainly in world football probably wants to play in the Premier League. "If given that opportunity again and I'm still wanted by the club I don't see any reason why I won't be there. I've got two years left on my deal. As I say, I'm enjoying it more than any other time in the past, so long may it continue." http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11711/8950240?
At the end if the day it's obvious nobody wanted him, we didnt either but we were both stuck with each other, the team over the summer has being totally transformed and of course we are winning. Tell me what team that's winning all the time sitting pretty at the top has a bad dressing room, none , that's because everything going right for now and I'm loving it
We all know you're so experienced at making mistakes, you're probably used to it by now. But the difference is, when you make a mistake, you don't get hundreds of media commentators and thiusands of baying fans on your back. Joey's doing all right. He's also (dare I say it) showing a more mature approach to life and his football this season, which is to be welcomed, because I would still say he's been our best - certainly most influential - player this season so far. He's man enough to say he was wrong, and for that he should be applauded.
He's been top class this season and his work rate and determination have been central to those scrappy 1-0 wins which could prove to be the difference towards the business end of the league. Keep it up Joey
He's had plenty of practice at apologising, should be pretty good at it by now. Just words, pretty easy to do I'd think, when you've also had to say sorry for repeatedley kicking a person lying prone at your feet. He was also a father and sober when he decided to kick Aguerro when his back was turned, one of the most cowardly acts I have ever seen on a football pitch. The fanatical self interest of the football supporter means all sins are forgiven when a player is performing for your team. Don't believe the hype. He's a **** and a good champonship player at best. Enjoy your day.
While he was putting in his usual energetic but error strewn performances it was easy to stick with my instincts about Barton: a physco who I don't want anywhere near my club even if he was a half decent footballer. His performances in the last few games have been exceptional however and it's been hard to not join in the plaudits from his unthinking fan club that now seem to have taken over most parts of LR. I honestly can't wish him gone while he continues to play like that and he looks certain to be the pivotal figure in our season. So having reviewed my position I have come to the Damascean conclusion that Barton is a physco but half decent footballer who I will just have to endure.
Well, it's good to see Joey so positive. I noticed on Saturday when he got an elbow in the face off the ball, he was incensed but calmed down quickly and didn't pursue a vendetta. Harry's had a good effect on him. So, I imagine, has fatherhood. Hope things continue this way but won't be gobswiped if they don't.
If you judge him solely on his performances and attitude this season, he should be first on the team sheet. Of course it's difficult to forget his past misdemeanours, but maybe he's changed? If he hasn't, and he loses it again, I would expect that the club will be able to tear up his contract, as I'm sure he will be on a final disciplinary warning.
This about sums up what I feel about him. But it is excellent tjhat he is playing so well and keeping his self discipline, despite all the provocation I don't doubt he is getting. Very well done Joey, so far!
