Which CB pairing do you think seems the best on paper. Must be strong on the ground, in the air, have some pace, height, confidence, leadership, balance, understanding, be able to play the ball out well and be versatile enough to stop different types of attacks.
A younger Toure and Sakho would be immense. However, Agger (I have a soft spot for the fella) and Sakho would be my choice, one beast in the air and another who's great with the ball at his feet, coming out of defence. However that would be unfair to both Toure and Skrtel.. Will say, its a nice "problem" to have.
I would love to see how Toure and Sakho would pair up as the 2 CB's. Both experienced, both big lads - Toure's leadership qualities and Sakho's passing and heading abilities (the stats from the last game are top draw from Sakho in all defensive aspects). I think that partnership would be ferocious EDIT: Jonny beat me to it!!
Agree. Kelly could be a good alternative to Johnson who looks to bomb forward and try and score 30 yarders. A stronger defender who is simpler but tidier going forward.
Toure and Sakho for me - they have everything a partnership needs. Toure has to be in the team because of his leadership skills, his voice and enthusiasm.
Toure and Agger for me. I've been surprised by how good Toure's touch is whilst he has been playing at RB. He has skinned a few players with nice little touches in tight areas. Sakho frightens me a bit when he is on the ball. Looks very jittery and not very confident but expect it will come with playing time
Toure played RB a lot when he was younger I think. Literally Arsenal's Carragher. Sakho will settle. No ones voted for Allen and Sterling?
Personally, I think that's just his body shape etc which makes him look awkward. I think he's very classy on the ball and is confident. One of the few players in the team that I have faith in keeping the ball and fighting off players.
Well, I like Carragher and I like Toure. But which is better? There's only one way to find out...FIGHT!!! (Carragher obviously)
Maybe you're right, I'll look out for it next game. I had seen very little of him before he came so just going off Liverpool matches and there is just something that I don't like about him on the ball. I don't like Enrique on the ball either because he is too stop/ start but he is great at holding people off and retaining the ball, so what do I know!
Yeah I know what you mean - he has a 'Djimi Traore' look to him lol. But he is renowned for his ball retention and passing, along with other defensive attributes. Highly rated around Europe and I can see why - so glad we managed to get him and he's definitely a top class player. We actually managed to compete with a big strong centre forward (Altidore). Enrique has little game intelligence and I sense that Rodgers really doesn't fancy him. I expect Cissokho to assume LB once he's fully fit and back up to speed. In addition, Enrique is the type of player who will do well for 89 minutes but will make one mistake which could cost us.
Yeah, when Cissokho came on against Villa we were under quite a bit of pressure. One of the first things he did was win the ball and run it 60 yards up the wing and then play it off a Villa defender into touch. Completely alleviated the pressure from the back four. Impressed me straight away
Pace, power and strength. Along with Toure and Sakho, we're gonna have a physically imposing defence!
I'm not the fence at the moment. Toure and Sakho look to have a good potential partnership, but equally Agger and Skrtel have looked pretty good. The real problem is a lack of a settled defensive team. Last couple of games we've been 3 at the back, and this hasn't looked great, but this may be due to square pegs in round holes (Henderson at RWB??) and having new players settling with their new team mates (Sahko and Moses haven't had the benefit of a preseason with their colleagues for example) Once we've seen a settled back line, I might feel like venturing an informed opinion. From what I have seen, Sakho is a beast tho...
I'm not happy with a Skrtel and Agger partnership purely because they can be easily bullied by a big physical striker. Sakho has come in and pretty much won all of his aerial battles. In addition, Sakho and Toure both speak French so they'll be able to communicate a lot easier.
