I hope we do pick up one or two young Englsh lads over the course of the next 12 months or so...

Newcastle United scouts will be at Turf Moor for Burnley's home match against Charlton Athletic - but who are they watching?

Here Is The City understands that the Magpies are keeping tabs on Burnley's young English duo Kieran Trippier and Danny Ings.

Full-back Trippier, expected to make his 100th league appearance for the Turf Moor club, is a former Manchester City reserve captain and England U21 international.

The 23-year-old was linked with the Toon last year, before the Magpies decided to pursue Frenchman Mathieu Debuchy.

He is contracted to the Clarets until the summer of 2015.

Interest in Trippier's team-mate, frontman Ings continues to grow - after his impressive start to the season for the Lancashire club.

The 21-year-old has netted nine times in eleven games this season to make up for the loss of Burnley's top striker Charlie Austin to QPR in the summer.

Toon scouts have already watched the 21-year-old three times this year - and are expected monitor his latest outing against Charlton this afternoon.

A whole host of Premier League clubs, including Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa have also been credited with an interest in Ings, and it is believed Burnley value him around the £7 million mark.

Ings is a hot talent and I didn't realise he was only 21.

I can't see Ashley & Kinnear out-bidding anybody else for him.

I dread to think how Joe will pronounce his name! <yikes>

Sums up what's wrong with the English game when ings is "valued at 7m".

The fact that Ings is valued at £7million is indicative that English clubs prioritise English talent and are willing to pay a premium for it. I thought that is what everyone wanted to encourage ?

Who's willing to pay? Which English talent transferred to the premier league this summer? Ings, Ince, Byram, etc should be in the top flight in world cup year. But they're not. Sunderland bought 12 players. Not one English unless I'm mistaken. The price should be in line with Europe.

Obviously clubs are wiling to pay or that wouldn't be the price.

There isn't some FIFA regulation saying that English players are to be valued higher than foreign players - - they command higher prices because they are more in demand. If English clubs didn't prioritise English talent, the prices would be in line with Europe. The fact that English players cost more is because English clubs are willing to pay more for them (or at least, so the selling clubs believe - - I suppose there could be a period of a window or two during which the valuations of selling clubs and buying clubs diverged, as happens in the housing market, but pretty soon they even out)

Hopefully the club are finally seeing sense and realising we need to invest in some English/British talent. Unfortunately this extortionate premium still exists. 7m for Ings is quite incredible. <yikes> However we have to strike a balance soon, so I'd happily take one english/british player who knows the game here over two foreign players (more than likely French) for the same fee. Anyway while this premium remains in place, the value of the asset bought is also inflated (for young players anyway). Similar to the likes of Jenas, Dyer, Milner.

There is still bits of value about to be had but not a lot. Hopefully as the pool of talent improves through improvement in coaching standards, the "extra over" will disappear. Of course part of that will require the clubs to actually provide opportunity. I still feel there will be a period of short term pain required from the clubs to make the step from our current world dominated by foreign players to a new world of our top league being dominated by English talent. Due to the backing the league gets financially from TV deals/sponsors etc, it is a lot more difficult than in some other countries to breakdown the barrier of giving opportunity. The problem being that the owners are always risk assessing. Playing young players carries risk, so rather than having a 21 yr old English player take a PL squad place, it is easier to use money to buy into the safety of bringing in a foreign international player who has experience. The risk in their eyes to their amibition is less, whether that be winning the league, quallfying for Europe or just staying in the division.

Must be looking for young English talent, I've just got home after a few days away and there's a letter here asking me to go for a trial.
